Leader of the viruses and innate immunity group @IMBatUQ. We love studying innate sensing pathways and acute respiratory viruses. Opinions my own.

Science projects with friends are the best! Beautiful team work with @JennerInstitute to characterise how changing chemical formulation of adjuvants influences innate and adaptive response to vaccine and ultimately protection in the context of Malaria vaccine.
Gabrielle Chappell@gchappell9

Proud to be part of this work. Congratulations team. @JelenaLab Emulsion and liposome-based adjuvanted R21 vaccine formulations mediate protection against malaria through distinct immune mechanisms cell.com/cell-reports-m…

Many extraordinary, life changing inventions have come from 🇦🇺 From the bionic ear to wifi. But they won't keep happening if we don't fund research. Federal research investment has ⬇️ to record lows. This budget is an opportunity to change that. canberratimes.com.au/story/8183843/…

Excited & delighted to share our latest work on human macrophages in COVID-19 @scisignal. Macrophages are key players in COVID-19, so we asked the crucial questions 1) does SARS-CoV-2 need ACE2 to replicate in macrophages 2) does ACE2 enable macrophage cytokine responses?🧵
Science Signaling@scisignal

How does #SARSCoV2 infect #macrophages? A study from Schroder (@inflammasomelab), @LarisaLabzin, and co. shows the virus enters both ACE2-expressing and -deficient macrophages, but replicates and triggers antiviral responses only in ACE2-expressing cells. scim.ag/2o2
