@MinneapolisDFL had a bad experience in my caucus, including neighbors selecting delegates from a pile of papers because they knew they’d vote for a candidate, or because they had “diverse sounding last names”, among many other very biased decisions. Where do I file a complaint?

Minnesota cops said they cannot accept a potential ban on white supremacist affiliation in POST certified officer ranks, cuz it will hurt recruitment. Please let that sink into your every consideration of each and every city/police budget conversation.

Today a coalition of @CityMinneapolis staff, current and former, from varying backgrounds, positions, experiences, spoke truth to power and unmasked the white supremacist culture that permeates the walls of City Hall. Our fight is not over.

There was no search, and there probably won’t be one. Just be better, City.

The great work of building and expanding alternatives to police response continues, because there was always a plan.

@JoshMartinMpls The charter can also be amended by a unanimous vote of the council + Mayor, so there is a (probably not viable) path which does not include it going to the ballot at all.

Alternately, an amendment may be submitted by petition, but the clock is ticking on that as well - the deadline is May 1 to submit an amendment by petition. This requires 11,906 signatures (and best to have some extra, as some signatures will end up not being verified).

Seeing some chatter about 1) recalling/removing Mayor Frey and 2) creating a Department of Public Safety. Here's some context about the rules surrounding these things. Let's start with recall/removal.🧵

I'm giving notice of intent at our next full city council meeting on 2/10 to introduce subject matter for an ordinance amending the city charter and creating a department of public safety.

I’m glad the MPD utilization report came out, and it is later than we’d wanted, but also staff gave basically this same information on 11/13/19. Some electeds listened and tried to act on it, and some waited on findings from a $170k consultant 🤷🏼‍♀️

So, the city released the report we should have had before the November election. We should have had this to compare to the fearmongering from Mayor Frey, Chief Arradondo, several CMs who eventually won, and groups like All of Mpls.

@BullyCreative And, importantly, how are we going to pay for alternatives if we can’t reduce MPD staff while they’re workload is reduced? What is the plan now?
