@LastSebonda @ActiniumBlue @maxtmcc My point is that the boundaries of human thoughts are often imprecise, and since words are a way to express thoughts, the meaning of words is often imprecise.

one fact that I feel like has really not penetrated the public consciousness to the extent that it should is “birds are dinosaurs.” and not in like a “they are distant descendants” way, in a “dinosaurs did not go extinct” way

@LastSebonda @ActiniumBlue @maxtmcc I don’t think tall as it is commonly used means exactly taller than the average height. I don’t think who people refer to as tall changes from year to year as the average height changes.

@ActiniumBlue @LastSebonda @maxtmcc I would say that the colloquial meaning does not have a precise definition, because language is a reflection of thought, and thought is often imprecise. What is the exact minimum height someone needs to be in order to be tall, for instance?

So I did a bit of an experiment, took a song Ive been working on for almost over a year, mixed and mastered currently sitting in a folder Im gnna submit for my next offering. Then yesterday I messed around with some sounds and put together a mediocre piece(according to me) and today I went to a filling station not too far from my spot. Its usually quiet in the AM’s so there’s no customers, I played the two songs to petrol attendants just curious which one will they find sonically pleasing. Im currently sitting in my car confused because they didn’t even give the song I worked on for a year a 2nd listen and vibed to the one I did yesterday. Now this isn’t all people ofcoz but this is a result regardless and its a concern.

Its weird how every time queer black people ask to be represented in stories that are supposedly about ALL walks of black life, the greater black community acts like they're asking for too much. Its not wrong to ask why there's not a clear queer dance in Sinners.

@real_catgirl823 @LastSebonda @maxtmcc I think sometimes it’s good to bring common usage in line with scientific usage, and other times it’s not good. Like I think it’s unhelpful when people point out that technically Jeffrey Epstein was not a pedophile. That’s a case where colloquial meaning rightly drifted away.

Cuba has a proven and consistent track record of helping so many countries not just in the Caribbean but elsewhere during natural disasters, humanitarian crises and just in general. To see so many countries turn their backs on them right now is unbelievable.

Africa Research Desk@MightiJamie

TIMELINE- THE RISE OF IPPs in SOUTH AFRICA. ▫️2008 Brian Dames became the chief officer of Eskom Generation. ▫️2009 Patrice Motsepe says Eskom electricity is too cheap and that was preventing independent power producers. ▫️2010 Brain Dames became CEO of Eskom. ▫️ 2011 first bid window for solar and wind projects to be funded by eskom. ▫️2012 Globeleq established HQ in Cape Town. Globeleq is the leading IPP company in Africa and is owned by the UK government. ▫️2012 Cyril Ramaphosa returns to frontline politics and is elected deputy president of the ANC. ▫️2014: 121 hours of load shedding recorded. ▫️ March 2014 Brian Dames resigns from Eskom ▫️Sept 2014 Brian Dames joins African Rainbow Minerals and Energy owned by Patrice Motsepe. ▫️ Dec 2014 Cyril Ramaphosa assigned to oversee the turnaround of Eskom in what was labelled the “war room.” ▫️2015 : 858 hours of load shedding ▫️ 2017: Cyril Ramaphosa wins ANC conference. ▫️ 2018: Cyril Ramaphosa becomes president of South Africa. 🔑 Pravin Gordhan appointed minister of Public Enterprises- overseeing Eskom. ▫️2018: 127 hours of load shedding ▫️2019: 528 hours of load shedding ▫️2020: 859 hours of load shedding ▫️2021: 1099 hours of load shedding ▫️2021: IPP bid window 5 ▫️ 2021 Ikamva Consortium - secured 12 of the 25 projects on offer. 🔑 info : The Ikamva Consortium includes Oslo-listed Aker Horizon's Mainstream, South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe's Africa Rainbow Energy & Power, local firm H1 Holdings and Globeleq, which the development finance institutions of Britain and Norway owns. ▫️2022 The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has awarded an electricity trading license to Remgro’s The Energy Exchange. Remgro is owned by Johann Rupert. ▫️2023: R41 billion spent by Eskom on IPPs which represents 27% of expenditure. Ipp’s only generated 8% of the power in 2023. 🔑 info: Between 1988 and 2007, electricity tariffs increased by 223%, whilst inflation over this period was 335%. ‼️From the 2008 there was a clear and sharp inflection point for electricity tariffs in South Africa. ‼️‼️‼️‼️ From 2008 to 2022, electricity tariffs increased by 653%, whilst inflation over this period was 129%. Thus, electricity tariffs increased four-fold (or quadrupled) in real money terms in 14 years. “Connect the dots” - Pravin Gordhan

No one said it's a guarantee. It's just pattern recognition. Women comfortable in their natural skin often bring less insecurity and less chaos. That pattern is pretty consistent and the only people triggered by this are the ones who see themselves in the other group

Most entrepreneurs in SA will tell you how they application for funding got rejected by government and next day their project is seen with someone 100% funded. Very painful experience to see your efforts being eaten by vultures.
