$100k in powerball is more tax advantageous than $100k in BHP Treasury's message to young Australians: Don't invest. Gamble.

If you are earning less than $45,000 your marginal tax rate is zero for $0 – $18,200 and 16% for $18,201 – $45,000. However if you’ve bought a few shares, or maybe invested in a few antiques - that have had a capital gain, sneaky Albanese now wants to tax that not at your marginal rate, but at 30%. Its a direct attack on low income earners and pensioner.
PoliticalPilot@PilotPoli

The 30% minimum tax on capital gains is the worst tax policy change in Australian political history. It's effectively saying to the average punter, don't save, don't invest, and don't try to make your money work for you. I've been a Labor member and voter since my first election, that ended tonight.

@Calingram Sorry mate but Finn Mackay is with the Reds. Maybe they can have HMP, if he’s dumb enough to sign.

The last thing the Tahs need is sweeping change. Just elevate Wilson to 9 and Bell back as a talisman to captain next year. Keep investing in the tight 5, back a long-term franchise 10 (prob Finn Mackay), and build a system. Be patient, talent doesn’t manifest in chaos.

Can't see the Tahs winning another game this season. Two terrible seasons with Mackellar as coach. As long as he stays, NSW rugby is in a bad position. Our NSW rugby fans deserve better than the slop Mackellar has served up. #HIGvWAR

@jaredwright17 @PlanetRugby No problem with the red card. It was the other yellow, the non yellow, missed knock on and general incompetence that really annoyed me.

🟥 A bit of chatter around Australia's Cooper Watters' red card after the broadcast footage didn't show New Zealand's Finn McLeod going head-first into the turf. But I have received the video TMO Egon Segonds used to make the call, which wasn't shown on the broadcast.

Ive never seen such appalling officiating as the disgraceful SA referee for the u20 @wallabies against NZ. Its either blatant cheating or incompetence by both Van Rooyen the cat on ground & Egon Seconds as TMO. Embarrassing @SanzarTRC . SA commentators were even baffled

@balumbah A Bit skewed analysis. Member unions are closer to community spend. Most important line item is $8m interest exp they won’t be spending anymore. Investment fund should help grow community investment going fwd.

Rugby Australia distributed AUD 4.6m in direct grants to member unions and affiliates in FY2025 just 1.75% of its total revenue. Even using the broader “community grants and costs” line, the figure rises only to 2.89% of revenue. Growing the game? #RugbyAustralia

@scrumming_ten Actually mate it was an Aussie media billionaire who needed content for his pay tv station that underwrote SR in beginning. If we were actually thinking long term we wouldn’t have ever signed up to that. Don’t know where that would have left a your 3rd world country today.

Rugby in NZ and Australia would be a semi-pro sport by now if SA teams started playing in Europe in 1996 Look how they're struggling without us! They're lucky that we played in Super Rugby for 25 years despite being disadvantaged by the travel, schedule and timezones

@TalksRugby Crowd was lively. It’s not the team, it’s comp that people have given up on. That’s obvious across all teams. I know many people who “used” to follow SR and gave up to watch more league.

Question for the Force fans; looked like a decent crowd last night. Was the difference the later start time? Considering how many NRL fans would have watched to see Lomax, or at least watched his highlights, the loud crowd makes it such a better product.

@balumbah @kinson88 Cully’s take was pretty depressing. Home and Away too hard. Open boarders, Rob Penny not having any it. If they can’t adapt to the reality of the situation, SR is dying, then they might as well scrap it. I’m sure NZR will achieve something for the ABs if were to happen.

@kinson88 good show tonight lots of insights. Can’t help but comment lots of consideration regarding what players, clubs, admin & broadcasters want, but no mention of what fans want. A successful SR comp will solely be determined by what fans want and are willing to pay for.

Ex-All Blacks assistant Scott McLeod has joined the Wallabies as their new defence coach. Very well-credentialled coach and has two world cups behind him. Although Brissy-born, he’s a kiwi. Ex-All Black centre turned coach. Appointment doesn’t say much for Aussie coaching pathways.

Can some with half a brain please explain to me what the Wallabies “represent”?
Steven Cook@Steven_J_Cook

@SteveMascord I always hope the Wallabies lose. I hate what they represent. I prefer the All Blacks. At least the sport is less elitist there.

Could anyone provide the link to the article that was well researched indicating or suggesting that the Western Force was in financial trouble.( the sensationalist doom mongers angle)
Craig@balumbah

FYI, Western Force becoming a not‑for‑profit mainly lets future funding be structured as tax‑deductible philanthropy instead of non‑deductible private support, which is attractive for the Forrests’ philanthropic vehicles. Simple @kinson88 #Seaofblue #WesternForce
