@Headteacherchat@MrHtheteacher My HoS run the operational side of the school whilst I (as Exec HT) focus on school improvement and finance etc. it’s a good structure for a first time leader stepping up from DHT as you essentially get an on-site mentor which supports your development.

I’m trying to untangle how senior leadership titles actually differ in schools:
- In real terms, what separates an Executive Head, a Head of School, and a Headteacher?
- From a career and day-to-day perspective, what are the upsides and downsides of being a Head of School versus a Headteacher?
- Once you get past the glossy job spec, how do these posts typically play out on the ground?
I’d genuinely appreciate reflections from anyone who’s worked within these structures (or alongside them).
