The Europeans are now experiencing what it truly means to be friends and allies of the United States. They thought this kind of betrayal would only happen to others. They believed they shared a deeper bond with the U.S. than other nations. Under America’s shadow, they pursued their own greedy ambitions in Ukraine—only to now find themselves standing among the ruins of their failure. They have stripped themselves of affordable energy. They have crippled the very engine of their own economies. And in doing so, they have revealed to the world just how politically and militarily insignificant Europe has become. Without the U.S., they are nothing but a laughingstock. They don’t even have a seat at the negotiating table for resolving the Ukraine conflict—the most serious war on European soil since World War II. And yet, they openly beg for one, as if they need to convince the world that they still matter. As a proud European, one can only feel deep shame. Shame that the people have allowed greedy sycophants and spineless lackeys to rise to power. Shame that Europe’s global standing has likely never been lower. Europe must reinvent itself. The era of bureaucrats and empty facades must finally come to an end.
