@aservais1 Hi - thank you for this! Makes you wonder why more art journalists didn't pick up my story on how Black artists feel wedged between incredible generosity and clueless insensitivity in rarefied places like Aspen....when they were all OVER the damaged Kusama pumpkin, right!? ;)

Extensive & candid reporting by @LauravS-An Awakening in Aspen Colorado’s frenetic art scene is drawing comparisons to the Hamptons and Palm Beach, but it’s also facing familiar growing pains. thecut.com/2021/08/an-awa…

@TanyaAuthor @TheCut thank you so much for sharing this - esp this week....not the turn I expected this assignment to take but very grateful to the artists and other cultural leaders who shared their impressions with me.

@TheCut This was not the direction I expected this assignment to take but couldn't unhear what the Black artists I interviewed shared, w adjectives like: “weird,” “jarring,” “intense,” “embarrassing,” “sad,” all the way to “gross,” “extreme,” and “unbearable....

Will Aspen, and other places with extreme privilege and not much racial diversity, be open to what Black artists have to say about their experience? @lauravs writes thecut.io/2VvE1r8

@TheOpEdProject Thank you so much for sharing this! This was not the turn I expected this story to take...but I couldn't unhear what these Black artists told me nor what I witnessed myself. I hope others with stories to tell will enter into the conversation too.

Are award-winning artists of color any less deserving than world-class athletes like Simone Biles, Sha’Carri Richardson & Naomi Osaka to challenge the places & people that purport to lift them up?

@jerrysaltz If not for my admiration for Simone Leigh I would never have made it to the end of that article.
English

@jerrysaltz thanks @jerrysaltz - glad you liked the article. It wasn't what I was expecting to report but couldn't unheard what I was hearing and tried to be fair-minded
