On the 5th day of #AshmoleanAdvent we bring to you a bear cub in the snow, magically brought to life by illustrator and animator Erin Christopher. 🧸 Open today's door to learn about the artwork by Japanese artist Mori Shūhō (1728–1813) that inspired this animation: ashmolean.org/advent

Let me share a short story. I'm visiting Austin this weekend for work. I went to the H-E-B market to pick up some food for the weekend. When checking out I bumped into an elderly gentleman named Abdullah. I asked him how he was doing and he responded, "doing OK." I noticed he was originally from Iran and I started speaking with him about recent events in Israel. He immediately told me he didn't consider the Hamas murderers human. He proceeded to tell me about the brutality of the Iranian regime, about their funding of terror. He said no human, under any circumstances, would hurt a child. As we got close to finishing packing the groceries, he said to me, "let's not talk about it anymore or I'll cry." Leaving the store, we ordered an Uber to get to our hotel. Abbas came to pick me up. As fate would have it, he was also an immigrant from Iran. Abbas told me he had moved to America twelve years ago. I asked him for his opinion about the situation in Israel as well. He echoed the same opinions as Abdullah. He added that he was disappointed that America didn't support the Iranian protests under Obama, that change could have happened. He told me that life in Iran was destroyed as a result of the Ayatollah and repeated the thoughts of Abdullah on their funding of terror. When I told Abbas I was Jewish, he told me he strongly stood with Israel. I shared with both Abdullah and Abbas that the recent events have made me so sad. I told them how I could not fathom how a human being could act out such premeditated brutality. We all lamented over the situation together. I gave Abbas a hug after he dropped us at the hotel. Let me tell you, this war against Hamas is a war against radical extremism. Only radical extremists could perpetrate the evil we have all witnessed. This isn't a war against Muslims or the Palestinians. It is a war to preserve the soul of humanity. If you can't condemn Hamas brutality, your soul is dying. You need to meet Abdullah and Abbas, men who have lived under the Ayatollah. Men who understand exactly what evil has been perpetrated by the Iranian regime and Hamas. These men have been on the other side and condemn Hamas. They don't defend Hamas from Ivory Towers or on the streets. In fact, they are quite busy working and supporting their families and don't have time for that nonsense. This isn't complex, it isn't nuanced. It is about those who want freedom. Abbas, Abdullah and I all want freedom. We stand against the evil that Hamas and the extremist regime in Iran represent. If you still don't understand what this is all about, I recommend a field trip to meet some revolutionary guard members in Iran or some Hamas fighters in Gaza. Unlike the folks who tell Jews to go back to Europe, once you're done with your field trip, welcome back to the land of the free and the home of the brave. Welcome back to the sound of freedom that America is fighting to preserve across the world via Ukraine and Israel.

Two months before #Hamas invaded Israel, the people of #Gaza protested Hamas’ rule by the thousands (as they’ve done many times before). None of the “pro-Palestinian” crowd cared because the Gazans were not protesting Israel. None of them spoke up for true Palestinian liberation. Hamas put down the protests through arrest, torture, and execution. The media was silent. The international community was silent.

The average giraffe sleeps for 4.6 hours per day. They can sleep standing up as well as lying down, and their sleep cycles are quite short, lasting 35 minutes or shorter. This newborn one is still not sure what to do with his neck while taking a nap twitter.com/Levandov_1/sta…

@LJonte Same. Actually there's literally no other part of my house where the lighting makes me look as good as the bathroom mirror does. Maybe this means all video chat needs to take place in the bathroom.
