A Long Shot I found this pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses lying in the kerb just off Woodlands Road - they're very strong so must be prescription glasses which can be expensive I suspect the chances of finding the owner via X are very small, but here goes nothing! Photo below

On this day 1940, Waffen SS troops shoot 99 British POWs at the village of Le Paradis, France. Two of the victims survive and will go on to identify the officer in charge of the massacre: Fritz Knöchlein. He will be executed for the crime in 1949.

People ask why I go on about Restore so much. It’s simple: I’m furious that Lowe is trying to block the one real chance we have to get rid of the establishment. His entire mission is to damage Reform because of his personal vendetta, and he’s doing it at the exact moment Britain can’t afford sabotage.   The next general election is our last shot at saving this country, yet he’s hell‑bent on stopping that. He knows Restore has zero chance of ever forming a government — he knows it — but he’d still rather see another Labour government than a Reform one.   To me, he’s completely unhinged and deranged, and far too many people are falling for his intentions. His only path to relevance is taking just enough votes off Reform in tight constituencies, and that alone could block Reform victories — including in Makerfield.   That’s why I call it out. That’s why the 5th Estate exists: to expose the games being played while others stay quiet.

The parents of missing Taylor Charlton from Barnstaple have marked his 15th birthday by thanking the community for its ‘incredible’ support. A large-scale investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding Taylor’s disappearance on the night of Friday 8 May. Taylor’s mum and dad, Zoe and Alex, said in a statement: “Today is Taylor's 15th birthday. “As Taylor's Mum and Dad, we would like to thank everyone locally and further afield for sharing posts across social media in the search for Taylor. “The amount of support shown from the community has been incredible and truly appreciated by all involved. “Hundreds of people are continuing to look for him, and we cannot thank everyone enough for the time, effort and support they have given so far. “If anyone would like to get involved in the search, please join the Facebook page and take part in one of the organised local searches. “Every extra pair of eyes could make a difference. Please continue sharing posts, staying vigilant and supporting the ongoing search efforts. We just want our son home.” The last-confirmed sighting of Taylor was captured on CCTV in the Tesco Extra car park, in Station Road, at around 10.30pm on Friday 8 May. Footage shows him heading in the direction of the River Taw. Taylor was reported as missing at around 5.15pm on Saturday 9 May. While all lines of enquiry remain open, investigators believe that Taylor may have entered the water. Detectives are continuing an investigation which includes the targeted reviewing of a significant amount of CCTV. The police helicopter was utilised to help with further enquiries along the River Taw and its estuary over the weekend. Local Commander for the area Superintendent Emma Butler-Jones said: “Taylor, his family and friends are very much in our thoughts, particularly on his birthday today. “We remain dedicated to finding answers for Taylor’s loved-ones and a substantial investigation is ongoing. “Extensive enquiries continue to be carried out by detectives and any new information that comes to light will be carefully assessed. “We are extremely grateful for the significant public response to our appeal so far, and we still urge anyone with information to contact us. “If you are out searching, please keep yourselves safe.” If you have information that is urgent, please phone 999, or in less pressing circumstances please consider using 101, quoting reference number 50260117084. @dunstablian What difference is it going to make? If not Burnham, we’re still going to have a labour PM for the next three years, and with labour having a huge majority, they’re not going to allow a general election any time soon. One more Reform MP is not going to make much difference.

Lowe, Restore don't have this countries best interests at heart. By standing to ensure a Labour win in Makerfield, they demonstrate that care not one jot for their country or its future, they care only for themselves. Its still not to late to withdraw and allow Reform clear run

On Sunday a memorial was held in Woolwich to honour the memory of Drummer Lee Rigby, marking 13 years since his brutal murder. Lee was not just a soldier. He was a son, a father, and a British serviceman who gave his life serving his country. What happened to him on the streets of Woolwich shocked the nation and remains one of the darkest acts of terrorism our country has witnessed. we remember Lee Rigby with dignity and respect. We remember the pain his family have endured, and we stand against the hatred and extremism that took his life. Gone, but never forgotten.

🇺🇸 Take a minute to reflect on the hallowed grounds of the Normandy American Cemetery in France on this Memorial Day. Perched on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach — the very site where our heroes launched the greatest assault for liberty in human history — lie the final resting places of 9,389 American warriors who gave their last full measure of devotion during D-Day in World War II. These are not just graves. They are monuments to American courage, sacrifice, and the fierce belief that freedom is worth dying for. Among them: • 307 Unknown Soldiers — forever honored, never forgotten. • 1,557 names inscribed on the Walls of the Missing — their spirits still watching over the cause they served. • 45 pairs of brothers who fought and fell together. • Three Medal of Honor recipients and four heroic American women buried side by side with their brothers-in-arms. This sacred cemetery was established on June 8, 1944, just days after the invasion. This was the first American WWII cemetery on European soil. A permanent reminder that when evil threatened the world, America answered the call. To every American who stormed those beaches, climbed those cliffs, and never came home: Your blood bought our tomorrow. Because of you, the light of liberty still shines bright across the globe. We will never forget. We will never falter. God Bless our Fallen Heroes. God Bless the United States of America. ❤️🤍💙

I think unless all patriotic voters unite behind Reform in Makerfield then Andy Burnham will win, call an early snap general election and put Britain under a hard left government until 2031. If you don’t want this to happen then vote Reform. mattgoodwin.org/p/a-prediction…

A man has been jailed for a total of 18 years for committing multiple sexual assaults on a young girl during multiple attacks in 2009 and 2010 63-year-old Alan Drake was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Monday, 19 August after being found guilty at trial of 13 counts of sexual assault. The court heard how the child was subjected to repeated sexual assaults over the course of a year when she was just nine years old. The survivor was able to gather the courage to report Drake in May 2021 after she managed to obtain a voice note of Drake admitting the offence. Armed with this evidence she finally felt brave enough to report these terrible crimes to the police. Drake of Sunbury-on-Thames was arrested the following day. When interviewed, he accused the survivor of being a liar. He was charged with 14 counts of sexual assault and remanded for trial. He now faces both a significant custodial sentence and a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). Investigating officer DC Scarlett Watkins said ⬇️ “I am delighted with the outcome on the case. We have worked extremely hard and are proud of what we have achieved. “I am in awe of the survivor, who has been so courageous in reporting this to police and has remained supportive throughout with what has sometimes been a difficult investigation. “I would urge anyone else who has been subject to this type of abuse to take encouragement from this case and know that justice can be done.” Sexual Offence Liaison Officer Roberta Jeffries said: “The survivor’s bravery throughout has been admirable and must be commended. The impact of this abuse has been life-changing; however, I hope that this outcome provides some comfort that justice has been achieved and she is able to move forward in time.” The survivor said: “This man has made me feel so ashamed of who I am and who I want to be. I shall live with the long-lasting effects of this abuse and suffer with PTSD, depression, and anxiety. My relationships have been severely damaged, and I am unsure if these shall ever be repaired. “This man has robbed me of my childhood where I should have been happy and making childhood memories. However, I am determined that he shall not rob me of my future. One in which I deserve to be happy and loved for who I am. “Today’s outcome is a monumental opportunity for me to move forward. I am incredibly proud of myself and, to anyone who has come out of abuse, it is hard, but we get there.”
