He is right, what Arsenal under Arteta are doing isn’t the football most people grew up loving. It’s become a mechanical system of set-pieces, time management and every dark art in the book rather than genuine attacking play. Instead of flowing football, you get rehearsed corner routines, players collapsing at the slightest touch, endless tactical fouls and games slowed down whenever momentum shifts. It’s effective at times, sure but calling it beautiful football is a stretch. If this becomes the template others copy, the game risks turning into a chess match of stoppages and tricks rather than skill and creativity. That’s why people like Hürzeler are speaking up. At some point UEFA and FIFA should seriously look at how far these tactics are pushing the spirit of the game, because this version of football is drifting very far from what made it beloved in the first place.
