31 July 2026 was a huge success in the hearts and minds of the majority of the people. Its purpose was to send the following message to the regime PEACEFULLY:NO TO THE 2030/CAB3/CAA3 agenda. The reaction of the regime told it all: they got the message, they do not like the message, they are prepared to assault, torture, imprison and kill in a bid to suppress the message and they will abuse/misuse State resources to fund oppression. We are not deterred. We remain determined. Now 31 July was an initiative of others which we supported. We are now organising our own peaceful actions to continue with the same message: NO TO THE 2030/CAB3/CAA3 agenda. I have to remind all that we have two strategies: legal battles in the courts and peaceful political action. The courts will hear us soon. Peaceful political actions are continuing. CAA3 will be reversed. We will win.

Good morning, Zimbabwe. Yesterday's unprecedented deployment of security forces across the country spoke louder than any official statement. A government that is confident in the support of its people does not respond to peaceful civic activity with overwhelming displays of force. The Constitution does not fear its citizens; it protects them. History teaches us that lasting peace is built on trust, dialogue and respect for constitutional rights—not intimidation. Zimbabwe's strength has never been found in armoured vehicles or roadblocks, but in the courage, resilience and dignity of its people. As we begin this new day, let us remain calm, peaceful and steadfast. Let us reject violence, refuse provocation, and continue to uphold the values of constitutional democracy, justice and the rule of law. The Constitution belongs to the people. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 31 July 2026 Preliminary Assessment – 10:00 AM Statement by Sungano yeVanhu – Ubumbano Lomphakathi (The People's Coalition) Sungano yeVanhu – Ubumbano Lomphakathi (The People's Coalition) notes the following preliminary observations as of 10:00 AM regarding today's nationwide stay-away: - Reduced movement and congestion in central business districts. - Increased deployment of police officers in urban centres. - Reports of an unusually high number of warrants of arrest issued by Magistrates' Courts following the non-attendance of accused persons, largely attributed to transport challenges. - No vendor activity at Freedom Square, with the area occupied by police and water cannons. - Reports of reduced attendance at schools in several parts of the country. These are preliminary observations, and we continue to monitor developments across the country. The indications so far suggest that many Zimbabweans have chosen to stay away as a peaceful expression of their views on Constitutional Amendment Act No. 6 of 2026 (formerly CAB3). A GOVERNMENT THAT FEARS ITS PEOPLE HAS ALREADY LOST THEIR TRUST Every time citizens seek to hold a political rally, the excuse is the same: "We don't have enough manpower." Yet the moment citizens announce a peaceful demonstration, suddenly the full machinery of the State is deployed. Endless press conferences. Endless warnings. Endless threats. Police roadblocks. Security meetings. Public intimidation. If there is no manpower to facilitate citizens' constitutional rights, where does all this manpower come from when the objective shifts to discouraging those same citizens? The Constitution of Zimbabwe does not treat peaceful assembly as a privilege granted by the State. It is a fundamental right. Section 58 guarantees freedom of assembly and association. Section 59 provides that: "Every person has the right to demonstrate and to present petitions, but these rights must be exercised peacefully." The Constitution therefore expects the State not only to respect these rights but to protect those exercising them peacefully. A confident government has nothing to fear from peaceful citizens exercising their constitutional rights. Governments that trust the people facilitate peaceful assembly. Governments that fear the people often see every gathering as a threat. The true test of constitutional democracy is not how a government treats those who agree with it, but how it treats those who peacefully disagree with it.
