[Budget 2026] 📊What’s promised vs what’s funded . Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will be tabling the National Budget on the 25th of February 2026 but history shows promises often don’t translate to action. Will this budget bridge the gap? 🤔 #Budget2026 #Accountability

We call upon the North West Department of Education, as well as Swartruggens Gekombineerde Skool, to amicably sort out this issue without infringing on the rights of learners who need to have access to an equal education.

Debates on the admissions and language policy have heightened tensions between school governing bodies and provincial departments. However, these broader policy disagreements cannot be allowed to translate into instability for learners.

[North West Court Case] 🏛️👨‍⚖️We are particularly concerned that this matter unfolds in the context of ongoing contestations and misinformation around the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill (BELA).

@PresidencyZA please may I ask, where is the money going to come from for compulsory Early Childhood Development education? This mandate is not funded and we are heading down a dangerous slope if this is not taken seriously. @equal_education #sona2026

SONA is a grandstand event for your president. Deploying SANDF has been called for a long time to deal with gun violence in CPT, nothing until SONA. I’m not talking about the effectiveness of this and how it’ll solve a systemic crisis of how guns enter streets in the first place

Mining Affected Communities United in Action
Today MACUA and a broad coalition of mining-affected communities delivered a Memorandum of Demands to Anglo American regarding its proposed exit from South Africa. The memorandum argues that Anglo cannot treat its restructuring as a routine commercial move while unresolved environmental liabilities, unfinished Social and Labour Plan commitments, and what communities describe as a substantial historical social debt remain outstanding. MACUA National Coordinator Sabelo Mnguni said: “This cannot become a case of profits leaving and damage remaining. Any exit must be subject to strict public-interest conditions and full accountability.” We’ve attached the full statement and memorandum. Happy to arrange interviews or provide additional comment.

An Early Childhood Development increased budget is one of the demands that we have had for @PresidencyZA & the @DBE_SA since the announcement of compulsory ECD education. Place a budget that is realistic for the system thrive. #SofundaSonke #SONA2026

. @PresidencyZA making Grade R compulsory without allocating the budget to @DBE_SA to accommodate this is almost useless! @equal_education has been demanding that this accompanied by real shifts in education budget and it urgent now more than ever. #Fixourschools #SONA2026

Food insecurity has a deep impact on learning young children. Social protections and social grants must be easier for people to access as this has a direct correlation to children having access to food & access to education that is not impeded by hunger. #SONA2026

We welcome the increase of SETAs as pathways for young people to receive training and skills development. @PresidencyZA must make sure that the gap in #waithoodofyouth is closed & that young people have options once they leave school. #SONA2026

Their hard work must be reflected by this government in meeting young people where they are by making sure that this economy is conducive to personal freedom. Construction of universities & TVET colleges welcomed if it means that more people will have access to tertiary.#SONA2026

The #matric2025 class has performed well & we celebrate their victory. No-fee-paying schools performed well in this past academic year, showcasing the hard work that young people put in education to change their circumstances & see themselves in spaces of higher education #SONA
