@Politico Playbook this AM SCOOP — AI industry backs five Dems: Leading the Future, the umbrella group coordinating the AI industry’s $125-million super PAC network, is throwing its weight behind five House Democrats as it works to shape legislative fights around AI, POLITICO’s Brendan Bordelon scoops. The group is backing Reps. Josh Gottheimer(N.J.), Sam Liccardo (Calif.), Yvette Clarke (N.Y.), Suhas Subramanyam (Va.) and Jimmy Gomez(Calif.). It’s the latest sign that Leading the Future plans to spend its considerable war chest on both sides of the aisle, even as voters increasingly view tech companies as aligned with Republicans. politico.com/newsletters/pl…

Cool ideas @sama! I know some members of Congress who can get right to work on writing the legislation! Some quick questions: 1) How much equity in @OpenAI should we plan on you contributing? Will it be your own equity, a dilution of existing shares, or is your idea that the federal government will buy shares using taxpayer dollars once you IPO? 2) How many tens of millions of dollars of your own money are you pledging to commit to pass these policies you say are necessary? How are you going to counter the hundred million dollars of @LeadingFutureAI political spending which opposes these policies, which is funded by your own investors and fellow executives? 3) How are you directing OpenAI Chief of Policy Chris Lehane to redirect OpenAI’s massive lobbyist and public affairs resources to support this agenda, which they currently actively oppose? @realhumansfirst

My initial take on this: Generally the ideas in it seem pretty good and important, and it's good that OpenAI is pushing for them. But the general tone of the document feels off — in particular, I think it does not accurately reflect what OpenAI leadership thinks will happen to jobs. And right now, the super PACs Greg Brockman is funding (which Chris Lehane helped set up) are not advocating for policies like these, and are arguably actively fighting against some of these principles. Will they change course?

Fascinating piece. It seems honest! My one caveat, on "labs aren’t lying when they say they want regulation while still racing ahead": Altman seems to lie about everything, and OpenAI has poured a massive amount of money into lobbying against regulation.

Hey flagging for awareness that either @bradrcarson lied or is completely out of the loop. His suggestion that the Blackburn proposal was made at the request of President Trump is 100% fake news. Today we see the real deal not Brad’s counterfeit.

Reading @MarshaBlackburn new TRUMP AI Act, introduced today at request of @POTUS. It's a long (300 pp), comprehensive bill; an outline of the bill was released in December. One note: it has a full repeal of Section 230. Full stop.

@LeadingFutureAI Don’t play dumb. You want to do exactly what the Crypto industry did: dump a hundred million dollars on a few politicians you’ll make “examples” out of, until everybody in Washington D.C. is afraid they’ll be next, and will rubber stamp the industry writing its own rules.

And for those who want to know our strategy and why we support policymakers who want to pass a national regulatory framework for AI that creates good jobs for American workers, wins the race against China and protects the safety of kids, users and communities. In a large upset, LTF (the OpenAI-Andreessen super PAC) takes a major loss in IL-02, where they backed Jesse Jackson Jr. Notably Jackson is famously corrupt, and I wonder if LTF’s toxic AI money fed into existing negative sentiments towards him.

We had a great conversation with @JakeSherman at @PunchbowlNews Conference, focusing on AI policy and the midterms. This event gathered leaders from both the public and private sectors to address significant issues that will shape the future of our country and the world. We take immense pride in what we are building at @LeadingFutureAI . @ZacMoffatt and I discussed our mission to establish a political and policy center of gravity for AI. We are supprting advocates of a pro-AI innovation policy at scale and with purpose as we work towards a national regulatory framework that creates good jobs for American workers, wins the race against China, and protects the safety of children, users, and communities. - Josh Vlasto from Leading the Future on competing with China on AI policy: [Watch here](lnkd.in/eSPP6MUb) - Zac Moffatt from Leading the Future on AI’s midterm strategy: [Watch here](lnkd.in/ewVb2w99) For those interested in the full discussion, you can view the complete video here: [Full video](lnkd.in/egENUghT) [Politico](lnkd.in/eB7qJFKr)
