The Nukit Lantern should offer roughly 2-log inactivation of Cyclospora in 5 min at 15cm

*But* this isn't actually going to work well on produce. Far-UVC is going to be a game changer for food prep in terms of sanitizing surfaces, but GUV can't penetrate- so can't get to the underside of produce, can't reach anyplace in shadow, can't penetrate clumps of...matter.
The only time researchers were able to get GUV to work on produce was when they put it in water and agitated it simultaneously.

That will be good for large commercial kitchens- some sort of tank with an agitator and Far-UVC inside, but not great for home use.
I use an ozone bubbler next to an open window on all my produce when I bring it home. But, I have monster ventilation and stay out of the kitchen while they soak. For most people, a bucket outside on the balcony or porch is much safer, and you can also use it with a large plastic bin to gas-disinfect pillows, stuffed animals, etc.

There's also decent evidence that ozone will be effective against Cyclospora when many other anti-microbials aren't:
Aqueous Ozone Exposure Inhibits Sporulation in the Cyclospora cayetanensis Surrogate Eimeria acervulina

It's still not completely safe (my dogs are obsessed with inhaling ozone, laser-cutter fumes, anything they shouldn't and have to be kept away from it) or super user-friendly for apartments.
There are produce sanitizing gizmos that make HOCL, which I am normally a huge fan of, but I've moved away from making it by electrolyzing water since it's harder to control pH and dose than with NaDCC tablets.
The big problem here is that Cyclospora is resistant to chlorine compounds, so HOCL is very likely to be ineffective.

Chlorine and other common anti-microbial chemical treatments are not effective against C. cayetanensis.
fda.gov/food/foodborne…
This has been a big problem because many restaurants use chlorine-based sanitizers on produce (and often neglect accompanying time-consuming hand washing)
The overarching issue with all of this is that thorough hand washing with plain water is really, really effective- 1 to 1.5 log reduction, so that should always be the first step:
Removal of Parasite Transmission Stages from Berries Using Washing Procedures Suitable for Consumers

Look at it this way: if a bird pooped on your arm, would you shine UV at it, soak it in a bucket with some detergent, or wash it off with scrubbing and a ton of water? Active washing- disinfection via dilution, is very effective, basically free, and makes everything else much more effective.

@NukitToBeSure Question: with this cyclospora outbreak here in the states, can I use my far UVC device (lantern) to kill it on raw produce? And is so, how long does it need to sit under the light? Thx

@i2cjak Curious what the additional sensors on the gen 2 camera board are? They don't seem to mention them here:

@ben_sdl @karina_repko davinci resolve or bust - you can also control entire flows with lua-script which you can directly interface with claude code or cursor ;)

@karina_repko Wanted to ask you about your setup and how long it takes / can it be done on mobile as well?

@SawaizSyed Always feels good when JLC charges $0.01 for 20x the material (because the fixturing also looks 20x cooler)

@stepjamUK Curious if timelapse observation has any value as training data for robotics?

Furniture assembly is the task everyone name-drops and nobody actually attempts at real scale. Every demo I have seen is a scaled down IKEA leg or a single arm on a toy chair. This paper does it properly, real scale, bimanual, up to 7 subtasks and 1,550 control steps per episode, and it is validated on a real Kinova Gen3, not just in sim.
That real-robot number is the one that matters: only a 16 percent drop on the hardest task going from simulation to hardware. That is a small enough gap to take seriously, and it did not happen by accident. They built a VR teleoperation rig specifically for coordinated dual-arm collection, because generic single-arm teleop setups do not capture the coordination real assembly needs, and the model predicts a continuous progress signal alongside the action chunk rather than a discrete subtask label, letting it auto-transition and catch drift before it compounds into total failure.
The simulation ablation is what got them there, 48 to 80 percent over baselines, with another 21 points from their perception and control design study alone, but that is groundwork, not the headline. Watch the video, there is a clip of the robot misgrasping the seat panel, reopening the gripper, and regrasping on its own. That is not scripted recovery behaviour, it emerged from training, and it emerged on hardware.
Excellent work from the team from @merl_news, with Oxford and UNC Chapel Hill Clinical Laboratory Science.
Video and project page in comments.

@simcity99 @UseCorgi Need to continue improving my routing, lots of overkill to keep power lines and signal from the camera clean. Lots of overkill around the rgb addressable led as well - need to look into modules w built in controllers.

@simcity99 I've never been able to figure out what US based IOT sim carriers support this modem!
