@LeanneFNurse @alisonleary1 I feel bad for starting this debate. Please consider me at least to ow have a better understanding and educated on the role. Sorry for any frustration caused. I understand how annoying it given its also happening to my role.

@TowneClaire @alisonleary1 @TheQNI Typed out a few replies and then thought better of it because this is clearly bigger than those tweets. Got me thinking about our links with acute services and how we could improve knowledge of our services with our hospital colleagues.

This thread and all the responses is exactly why District Nursing isn’t valued for the expertise it delivers. It is very clear the role and the service is totally misunderstood. Perpetual thinking all community nurses are district nurses, thank god for @alisonleary1 @TheQNI

@simontutt88 @alisonleary1 This is really heartbreaking to read as a DN who’s completed advanced practice modules, reviews patients, Individually holds risk and independently manages patients and yes… also prescribes.

@alisonleary1 What makes those roles more traditional advanced practice? For example I wouldn't class DN as advanced? I would an ANP who is individually holding risk and independently managing patients, prescribing?

So today the Scottish terms and conditions committee again decided that the district nurse role, an autonomous specialist practitioner working at an advanced level, as well as often leading and managing a team as well as responsible for a patient case load, will remain band 6 🫣

11 years ago I was excited for my first day on a real ward as a student nurse 🥹 Wonder what baby nurse Leanne would think of how the following 11 years have gone.

@ShaunLintern I really fail to see how weekly compliance checks with Waterlow, MUST body mapping would help in this circumstance. Sounds like the DN team knew they needed to visit more but didn’t have the capacity to do so. A familiar feeling for all of us in community nursing at the moment.
