You don't have to memorize everything about an experiment to think critically about its methods, findings or limitations. I now spend a lot more time jotting down my reactions to readings than actually reading, and this has led to more fruitful conversations in and out of class.

This is the reality of the world of research though! It's incredibly unrealistic to expect that people remember everything from every article they have read, and this is what made finding the motivation to actively read academic literature outside of assignments hard for me.
