I wish #academia would stop having conferences mostly on weekends. We should have them during the week & be able to cancel or post a video for lectures missed. Working all week & then leaving your family to work the weekend is not inclusive or healthy IMHO. #AcademicChatter

People aren't suddenly more anti-Semitic than before. But hearing public figures be so blatant about it empowers them to do the same. We need to make it socially unacceptable to share racist, bigoted and homophobic thoughts. Let's utilize the desire to be liked for good.

I will explain this to you slowly: exercising our right to protest is not obstruction of Congress nor an attempt to overturn democracy. If one were a heinous enough person to do that, they’d likely seek a pardon for it too. But only one of us here has done that. And it ain’t me

A lot of people, especially on days like yesterday’s SCOTUS rulings, ask me about hope. Now is the time to stick together. Some thoughts from last night’s Q&A:

I'm a grad student in Quantitative Psychology. I believe in the utility of good psychological measurement and quantitative methods. I also believe that most psychological studies would benefit from at least one chill qualitative element. Here's why, with anecdote: 1/8

A year ago, a non-academic friend listened to a talk I gave. I thought it went great. My friend disagreed. She said that academics are experts at making interesting stuff boring—and that we should all take a speech class. So I did. And here are 6 most useful things I learned.

You don't have to memorize everything about an experiment to think critically about its methods, findings or limitations. I now spend a lot more time jotting down my reactions to readings than actually reading, and this has led to more fruitful conversations in and out of class.

This is the reality of the world of research though! It's incredibly unrealistic to expect that people remember everything from every article they have read, and this is what made finding the motivation to actively read academic literature outside of assignments hard for me.
