Debian Linux Goes Full Reproducible (And What That Means)
Debian Linux has declared that, effective immediately, they will reject all packages which are not reproducible. This is a big deal for the entire Linux world.
@OfficialPCMR@OhRichard271 I agree, but still, Edge is forcing copilot and storing passwords in plain text. so yeah, i'm sticking with brave, but if i had no choice i will stand by firefox.
Silicon Valley companies are betting big on AI data centers that float in the ocean.
An Oregon company called Panthalassa has raised about $210 million, including a recent $140 million round led by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund.
The company is building large floating platforms called Ocean-3. These are sphere-shaped structures about 85 meters long that will operate far out at sea.
The platforms generate power from ocean waves and use seawater to cool the computers, they send AI results back to shore via satellites and focus on running AI models rather than training new ones.
Moving to the ocean solve some problems like power shortages, cooling water, long approval times, and slow construction.
Smaller versions have already been tested at sea, and full-size platforms will start in the northern Pacific in 2026.
Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device.

That is the true definition of malware.
A few years earlier (in 1975) a young US Marine (me) Air Traffic Controller* (GCI and LAAMBS) was working on the DARPA NET (as we called it back then) developing computer control of air-to-air fighters (Top Gun School.) I was scrolling the many lines of code and noticed a file called SAM. I opened it and found out it was not "Surface to Air Missiles" but rather Single Asian Male. When reading it, it was apparent the author noticed a lot of Asian Females were on the "system." So he sent out a message of interest to meet. Since the NET included many colleges in the California area that were working in conjunction with DARPA, Dr. Henry Wong UCB (the author, I remember him well) made many contacts, and I believe this was the first use of the NET for personal correspondence. I always wondered if Henry got laid? If he did, he would have been the first person to use the internet to do so?
In 2018, Gabe Newell quietly helped OpenAI a lot, he gave OpenAI $20 million because he believed early on that AI should grow in a safe and smart way
At that time, OpenAI was still deciding its future plans.
Newell was the only member of a small, unofficial advisory group and gave them advice during that key early stage.
