the way to build shareholder value is to build a workplace that brings out the best in people.
companies that focus excessively on might-be shareholders at the expense of their teams will bleed talent at the moment in time when talent matters the most.
it’s unfashionable to talk about culture, and near uncouth to bring up the “work environment”. while surely the cold-brew-on-tap office perks of the 2010s were useless, and stock comp may be frittered away in uneconomic ways, the returns to building camaraderie and a winning locker room have never been higher than they are today.
the best CEOs are building their companies both for their customers and for their teams. the shareholders will take care of themselves.

Not knowing how to code giving you an advantage is absolute nonsense.
The more you understand, the better your prompts, the better the feedback you give, the better product you ship.
What will change is that the intricacies of syntax, compilers, module systems, the finer details of type systems, won’t matter as much to everyone.
But you should absolutely understand how the pieces fit together. From syscall to pixels. Learn how data flows, because you’ll be able to secure your systems. Learn about performance, because you’ll be able to push your agent further. Learn about APIs, because they determine how to integrate systems. Learn about how systems fail, because you’ll be able to make reliable programs.

There is an instinct among early stage investors to talk their book like all the big tech incumbents are about to be slayed by an army of $1m ARR startups. Founders, you are smart enough to know this isn’t true. Slaying an incumbent requires, time, skill, luck, and often a new technology. Don’t believe the marketing hype - this shit is hard.

Twitter's Eng org used to be TWO THOUSAND engineers.
Now it's ~25 engineers and a few designers and PMs.
I knew the cuts were big but this is blowing my mind.
