The Democratic Republic of Congo has declared Wednesday a public holiday after the national team qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 52 years.
The Leopards secured their place with a 1-0 extra-time victory over Jamaica, thanks to Axel Tuanzebe’s decisive 100th-minute goal.
Authorities say the holiday allows citizens to celebrate the historic achievement with unity and national pride. DR Congo last appeared at the World Cup in 1974 when the country competed as Zaire.
Scenes of celebration erupted across Kinshasa following the victory. 🇨🇩🔥
