They know, of course, that serializing ammunition cases is a manufacturing impossibility at scale. It's a de facto ban. It always is. This is not about gun safety or solving crimes - this is about driving up the cost of gun ownership to the point where it's unobtainable.

Illinois Democrats are pushing to serialize all ammunition and build a registry designed to track and monitor gun owners. HB 4414 relies on the debunked concept of microstamping to mandate serialization of all ammunition manufactured, owned, sold, or even lent within the state. People caught with "unserialized ammo" face misdemeanors and seizure. They claim it will help “solve crime,” but in reality it mirrors failed policies in other states that relied on the same flawed science.

What started as a ban on sales quickly morphed into a push to outlaw possession as well. The Rhode Island House introduced H8073 as a follow-up to last year’s legislation, which prohibited the sale of so-called “assault weapons” while allowing existing owners to keep theirs.
