What's at issue here is the gap between those that trust Carney to continue funding these social programs at Trudeau-era levels and those who remain skeptical. We won't know until later but skepticism of a new PM with a limited track record on social spending is not unwarranted.

Yes they expire then. They have to be re-negotiated. So you wouldn’t book any money in until you do so. That is how we usually do budgeting. Some might call it an unfunded liability but it’s also a good tactic for negotiations - as every federal govt does. (I didn’t tag you because I didn’t want to flood you with replies). @gill_godwin @TheresaLubowitz I’m also not presenting it as an either/or. I would probably lean more to your argument that the plan is probably not to cut the funding entirely, but Raj’s thread already has examples of those programs receiving reduced funding from what Trudeau’s government promised.

@gill_godwin @TheresaLubowitz That may be, but those reductions have to come from somewhere and when governments make cuts, it is generally on social programs and/or the public service that implements those programs.
