@PsychNiles What if alliance is a physiological mechanism because of the way relationship and attachment influence neurobiology? I don’t think that can be ruled out. Increased sense of attachment safety leads to greater openness to cognitive change but is also its own change.

@reframingchris I personally don’t stop myself from tearing up and I don’t try to hide it. Being authentic in reflecting emotion is important. I’ve never been tempted to bawl in session, though. I would excuse myself if I was. The client doesn’t need to feel like they need to comfort me.

@gildner Scheduled calls where people call exactly on time are the best, followed by unscheduled, followed by scheduled calls where the person is even one minute early or late.

How often do people set up call times with you, vs just calling? I much prefer just getting called. It usually just works for me and doesn’t require me to block out a time where I’m sitting at my desk, with dead space on either side.
