Attacking power plants is collective punishment and is by definition a war crime, and it is also a failed policy, as is clear from the start.
Iran has at least three cards to play in retaliation. It will black out the entire region. It will cut the internet cables on the seabed. It will close the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The lesson Mr. Trump should have learned by now is that when you threaten someone’s very existence and talk about overthrowing the Iranian regime, you can be sure that they will climb the "escalation ladder" with you all the way. So you will never achieve the escalation dominance.

Canada's statement is a masterclass in selective outrage. It condemns Iranian strikes on Gulf energy infrastructure while remaining entirely silent on the illegal state terrorism and military assault on Iran by war criminals Israel and the United States that preceded and provoked them. It hypocrisy one-sided political positioning dressed up as principled concern.
The United States and Israel launched an unprovoked military attack on Iranian sovereign territory on February 28, 2026, targeting nuclear and military infrastructure in violation of international law and the UN Charter. Israel then escalated further by striking Iran's South Pars natural gas facilities civilian energy infrastructure shared with Qatar. Iran's response, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and retaliatory strikes, did not emerge from a vacuum. It emerged from a nation under active military assault fighting for its survival.
Canada's statement speaks of "de-escalation" while refusing to name the original escalation. It expresses being "appalled" by Iranian actions while offering no comparable condemnation of the strikes that killed Iranian children civilians and destroyed Iranian infrastructure. This double standard does not reflect the values Canada claims to uphold — it reflects the foreign policy of a country that has chosen a side and is unwilling to admit it.
True de-escalation requires honesty. It requires acknowledging that Iran is not the aggressor in this conflict. It requires calling on the United States and Israel to cease military operations. It requires Canada to use whatever diplomatic influence it claims to have not to contain Iran, but to restrain those who started this war.
Until Canada is willing to condemn all illegal uses of force equally and without exception, its calls for de-escalation ring hollow — and its credibility is precisely zero. #canpoli

🚨🚨🚨 I have supported Trump since day one.
Trump is literally threatening massive war crimes against a country that he started a war with.
I believe that this is probably an impeachable offense, or even could invoke Article 25. I'm not talking about the baseless impeachments the Democrats hit him with. I mean legitimate impeachments.
This is not a limited operation, so Trump also declared war without the approval of Congress, which he has had plenty of time to try to obtain. Another impeachable offense.
It takes a special level of unhinged to make such a statement as Trump did today.
This seems like an act of desperation.
He knows that he has opened Pandora's box.
