Video of the Minneapolis shooting on Reddit shows a group of ICE agents beating a man on the ground. One of the ICE agents then steps back and shoots the victim multiple times. A nearby witness says “they killed the guy.”

FACT-CHECK: Deconflicting some competing narratives from Democrats and the White House/Republicans.   The White House says one of the reasons there is no shutdown negotiation with Democrats is because they are asking for ridiculous things, like healthcare for illegals which was repealed under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.   Democrats are accusing the White House of lying, saying illegals can’t access programs like Medicare and Medicaid.   While that’s technically true, some lawfully present immigrants were eligible for the federal health programs such as Medicaid and CHIP after a waiting period, ACA tax credits without a waiting period, and Medicare under certain work/disability/age requirements.   The OBBB made changes to those categories, which Dems proposed reversing in the shutdown battle:   HERE: democrats-appropriations.house.gov/news/press-rel…   AND HERE:  democrats-appropriations.house.gov/sites/evo-subs…   Additionally, the federal government also provides limited "Emergency Medicaid" coverage available for people who would qualify for Medicaid benefits if not for their immigration status in emergencies requiring immediate attention to prevent serious harm, disability, or death. While the BBB reduces payments to hospitals for these services, it does not remove them altogether.   Basically, OBBB put up more guardrails to make sure aliens are not getting benefits meant for citizens, and the Dems are choosing to take these guardrails down by pushing for health title repeal in their alternative CR.   Despite these facts, the Dems and some media are running with the narrative that the White House is “lying”.     As an example, I fact-checked this CNN fact check:   cnn.com/2025/09/30/pol…   CNN CLAIM: Trump falsely claims Democrats want to give free health care to ‘illegal aliens’ in government shutdown battle… But Trump and Vance’s assertions are not true. The Democrats are drawing a line in the sand over health care, but it doesn’t involve undocumented immigrants. FACT: CNN distinguishes illegal aliens from ‘legal’ aliens – but Republicans argue that under Biden, millions were paroled into the country illegally, and parole was abused as a rubber stamp. The alternative Dem CR proposal repeals all healthcare provisions within the Big Beautiful Bill, restoringaccess to Medicaid, Medicare, and ACA subsidies for many 'lawfully present' noncitizens who had been able to access them under previous law -- including refugees, asylees, and parolees. EVIDENCE:  Section 71109 of the Big Beautiful Bill eliminated Medicaid eligibility for many humanitarian entrant categories including refugees, asylees, parolees, etc -- beginning next year. Section 71201 excluded many noncitizens from Medicare eligibility who had qualified under prior law. Sections 71301 and 71302 imposed tighter limits on ACA premium tax credit eligibility, overriding the broader “lawfully present” standard and eliminating subsidies for many noncitizen categories.  Additionally, millions of lawfully present immigrants previously were eligible for federal health programs – for instance, the Big Beautiful Bill blocked1.2 million from accessing ACA alone. Democrats proposed reversing both of those changes. More broadly, while Democrats can correctly state that undocumented immigrants generally are not eligible for full Medicaid, Medicare, ACA/Obamacare, or CHIP, the law does permit Emergency Medicaid for individuals meeting other eligibility criteria – this category cost about $3.8 billion in FY 2023.
