Back in January 2016, a sweet two and a half year old bloodhound named Ludivine was let out by her owner April Hamlin for a quick bathroom break on their farm near Elkmont. Instead of heading straight back home like usual, this curious and super friendly pup wandered over to the starting area of the inaugural Elkmont Half Marathon where a crowd of runners was gathering. When the gun went off, Ludivine just decided to go with the flow. No leash, no human, no plan. She simply joined the pack and ran the entire thirteen point one miles right alongside everyone else. She placed seventh out of one hundred sixty five human runners, finishing in one hour thirty two minutes and fifty six seconds. Along the way she paused a few times to sniff out a dead rabbit and even hung out with some cheerleaders, but that did not slow her down enough to lose her spot near the front. One runner who finished just ahead of her actually kept her company for a big part of the race and made sure she got water at the end. April, who is a guidance counselor and not a runner herself, had no idea what her dog had been up to until friends started sending her photos. She was completely floored. She later said Ludivine is laid back and friendly but actually pretty lazy, so the fact that her pup had just run a whole half marathon was pure shock. The story spread fast and turned Ludivine into a local hero and an internet favorite. Race organizers were so tickled they renamed the event the Hound Dog Half Marathon the following year, even adding some Elvis songs to celebrate their accidental four legged star.

unlike Butler PA, this incident doesn't seem to have been an "assassination attempt." the gunman was nowhere near T***p when he began shooting, allegedly in another room. knowing nothing about him except a few NY Times facts, one would guess that he is mentally unstable, angry at the administration & also at journalists. but probably not "staged"--genuine, blundering & self-destructive. (suicidal? who would begin shooting in the presence of armed security guards?)
