@PressReaderCare Since last week I have been unable to increase the size of the screen using my mouse-wheel on PressReader's UK site with Google Chrome in Windows 11. The mouse wheel still works perfectly on other sites. Had this been disabled by PressReader? It makes the site almost unusable.

Zia Yusuf is back in Reform. I have never been more convinced that we need a credible alternative to the utter shambles that is Reform UK. I am working on that, and will have more news to share soon.

@Nigel_Farage You need to get Rupert Lowe back in the team. At present your team lacks serious candidates and MPs to be taken seriously in a General Election.

I am genuinely sorry that Zia Yusuf has decided to stand down as Reform UK Chairman. As I said just last week, he was a huge factor in our success on May 1st and is an enormously talented person. Politics can be a highly pressured and difficult game and Zia has clearly had enough. He is a loss to us and public life.

@TheBernician @RupertLowe10 Easier said than done unfortunately. A lot of people here in East Anglia want to support Reform but they need a coherent structure with serious senior politicians like Rupert Lowe. A new party would be almost impossible to form and compete IMHO.

@RupertLowe10 Farage is incapable of putting anything or anyone before himself, no matter what the circumstances or the harm his self-serving actions cause. But if you lead a new party committed to genuine constitutional reform, you will win in a landslide.

Farage says he would ‘rather eat razor blades’ than allow me back into Reform. Having sat with him as an MP for eight months, I’ve already got plenty of them in my back. Farage and his ego are together incapable of building a team. He must never be Prime Minister.

@RupertLowe10 Isn't now the time to bury the hatchet with Farage and rejoin the party with a serious shadow portfolio now that your views on the ex-chairman have been vindicted?

I have written to @YvetteCooperMP requesting a meeting to discuss my new policy paper, produced with @migrationCtrl, which comprehensively details the measures required for an effective mass deportation programme. This is now mainstream political opinion. We must keep pushing.

Good news - a third Conservative MP has now signed my mass deportation motion in Parliament. Progress. @AndrewRosindell, proudly representing Romford. Seven have now signed. Myself, three Tories, another independent, one DUP and one TUV. From small acorns, mighty oaks grow!

I am SO bored of being governed by virtue-signalling rank amateurs. It's been DECADES. Look around. Almost every town centre is a dump, nothing works, packed roads, hospitals falling apart, unpoliced crime. Nobody cares! It's just normal now. We ALL deserve so much better.

@RicHolden @itvnews Thank you! We look forward to watching this. Our founder @RosieP4 was also filmed. We understand it will be on tomorrow (Thursday) 6pm and 10pm @itvlondon And yes: So many better alternatives to pylons, but Miliband is starry eyed

Down on one Stephen Hart’s farm, between #Billericay and #Shenfield today with @itvnews where 160ft megapylons are due to be installed In 🇩🇪 and 🇩🇰 their Governments now demand underground 1st as a solution for big new electricity infrastructure, 🇬🇧 Government should have a proper plan to drive down cost and do the same to protect our countryside from this unnecessary blight @PylonsEAnglia

Thanks @rcolvile for your challenge. You are right that Underground HVDC (U-DC) is shown as ‘cheaper’ in the East Anglian study only with the caveat of a 2034 baseline for both. But we think this makes it a fair comparison.
Robert Colvile@rcolvile

Took me a while to get round to this but have checked out the original report, and this just isn't true. Putting cables underground is £1.6bn more expensive than the pylon option, and four years slower - the costs converge only if you delay the pylons, and so jack up the price.

@ELPinchbeck @PylonsEAnglia 1. NG itself says HVDC undergrounding is cheaper (lifetime), less risky & quicker than OHL in a report this summer. 2. The ESO report is based on 2034 which, coincidentally is exactly when we need the East Anglian grid upgraded, not 2030 (Independent Hiorns report).

Contrary to at least 4 independent studies that offshore grid is less harmful and is cheaper... And to two UK reports setting out benefits of HVDC undergrounding And US reports that upgrading existing grid can double capacity fast and cheaply, without disruption. @PylonsEAnglia

@ELPinchbeck @PylonsEAnglia Not 'The End'...! Offshore integration: less infrastructure & cheaper. HVDC undergrounding: less damaging, cheap. Pylons should be the last resort because there are better, cheaper and more popular options. But you're constantly talking as though pylons are the first resort.

38,000 have signed our petition. We need a GREAT grid upgrade. Pylons are not cheap. Instead: 1. Integrated offshore grid. 2. Upgrade the existing grid. 3. HVDC undergrounding. All three: better/cheaper/more popular
