You can be a statesman at a time of crisis or you can be a cheap Brexit partisan. You can’t be both.

If we are to ultimately defeat Putin we require international leadership and unity. Comparing the Ukrainian people's fight against Putin's tyranny to the British people voting for Brexit damages the standard of statecraft we were beginning to exhibit.

He is doing this because he knows Brexit is a disaster, it has isolated Britain, made Britain poorer, less influential. He needs extreme forms of hyperbole to cover the gap between that reality and the false utopia that he and others promised.

Johnson's comparaison of the courageous fight of Ukraine with Brexit is insane… Brexit was about undoing freedoms and leaving the EU…Ukrainians want more freedom and to join the EU!

If you really wanted to make a linkage between Brexit and the horrendous invasion of Ukraine, it’s that the notion of a fragmented EU suited Russian ambitions, which is why so much Russian influence (and filthy money) was invested in both the Brexit campaign and the Tory party.

Boris Johnson likens Ukrainians’ fight to British people voting for Brexit. I can still remember the enthusiasm of Putin and Trump after the referendum. Boris, your words offend Ukrainians, the British and common sense.

Should also mention that Ukraine is largely united against Russia. Less than one third of the UK population voted in favour of Brexit
