@jayrayner1 @FT On no, not a personal vendetta, your persona does not come across as being so petty. The volume of comments certainly jumped; folks obviously prefer discussing the negative, which is an awful observation on today's society!

I have a second piece in @ftweekend in which, as I approach my 60th, I celebrate all the things I will not apologise for hating. It was very therapeutic to write. ft.com/content/6bddd7…

Journo students: Daily Mail names Widdecombe suspect with pic. Legally, since 2018 Cliff Richard case vs BBC, suspects have right to privacy until charged. You can debate this but that’s how things stand. + some social media posts reacting to Mail’s story breach Contempt law /1

For today’s @ftweekend I went to Jul’s, a frankly weird, charmless, over priced calamity of a restaurant in st james’s. I did this so you wouldn’t have to. Have the first paragraph and a link. ft.com/content/b5eba5…

A quick head's up for anyone coming to tomorrow nights Kitchen Cabinet record in London's Chelsea. You will have received an email but just in case, we have pulled the recording time forward to 6.30pm because of the England game.

@jayrayner1 @kelvmackenzie I dispute this, counter terrorism are leading the investigation, that is public knowledge released by the police. This means they have found evidence to indicate it is political/terror related. These are facts released by police not interpretation

So a bloke drives 300 miles from Rotherham in the day bringing with him a foot long pole which was used to murder a famous politician in her remote Dartmoor home and yet police say there’s no political link. What, pray, do they believe was the motive? There are 650 MPs who have a very vested interest in finding out.

@Gaffermac @kelvmackenzie Under the contempt of court act 1981 there ARE reporting restrictions. The fact you are not aware of them or the act does not change that.

@Gaffermac @kelvmackenzie Sigh. Under the contempt of court act, a case is live from the moment of arrest. You Do not know the details of the case or how it might be prosecuted.

On August 25 I’m doing a one off Work in Progress performance of my new Nights Out In The Kitchen show before it goes on tour, at the Circle & Star in Hampstead. There are just 20 tickets left. jayrayner.circleandstar.live

@jayrayner1 @NigelXYYMan Given that his former paper still holds the record for a contempt fine, set during his editorship, I think it might stony ground.

Someone has been arrested in connection with the death of Ann Widdecombe - that means publishing anything, including posts on X, which risks seriously prejudicing a trial, is an offence. It also doesn’t help her friends and family in obtaining justice. Link in next post…

@NigelXYYMan Well. I co-wrote three editions of McNae’s Essential Law for Journalists and specifically the chapter on contempt, so I think maybe I’ve got a better grip of it than you. Schedule 1, Contempt of Court Act 1981, says proceedings are active once someone is arrested. Look it up.

For today’s @ftweekend I am in Cambridge at the lovely Margaret’s, which offers a mixture of à la carte and set menu and it all works: gazpacho, asparagus and canapés to start; pork loin or monkfish for mains; strawberry or chocolate for dessert. ft.com/content/dcba4c…

For today’s @ftweekend , marking the US 250th, I’m at Appalachia, a new counter restaurant in London’s Shoreditch which is less mountain country restaurant than Brooklyn hipster outfit, in a good way. (The forth pic is a fab crab and ginger omelette) ft.com/content/a2ded5…
