I understand that, but Title 42 was pretextual from the very beginning. It was just Miller using the pandemic to fulfill his dream to shut down the border. Of course no one in the Biden admin was happy to end it, and I think that includes Becerra. My point is that the Biden administration's incompetence at the border falls to the White House's incompetence and not Becerra's incompetence.

@LetVictorBe @mattyglesias I don’t have an argument to make one way or the other, but at the time HHS was legally in charge of the border superseding all normal law because of emergency orders. My speculation was no one inside Bidenworld was happy when that was over because it meant making tough choices

I’m told by people familiar that Rice (and others) blame Becerra for the Biden administration’s slowness to move on the border, but I don’t really understand what specific role the HHS Secretary is supposed to have played in this or exactly what Rice was proposing instead.

@White_Shadow81 @mattyglesias Sure, the pretextual policy came from HHS, but he was not in charge of the border (just as Trump's then HHS Sec was not in charge either). Also, keeping Title 42 was Susan Rice's preferred policy, and it wasn't lifted until 2023 despite being a pandemic measure. Why is she mad?

@LetVictorBe @mattyglesias At the time the primary way the border was being controlled by the prior administration was through HHS because of the pandemic, Becerra ended that and the transition to the other departments is likely the sore spot here

@AttyTMD @greggnunziata True, but to be fair, she might be referring demands judges should be loyal to the person that appointed them, or the threats of impeachment for disagreements over opinions.

@greggnunziata Judges are public servants, exercising great power over the citizenry. In our system independent of partisan branches. Independent, yes, but not immune from criticism for their reasoning & decisions. Sometimes they rebuff criticism as attacks on independence, which it isn't.

This statement by Justice Jackson is perfectly consistent with the judicial role, federal judicial ethics, and the code of conduct committee's advisory opinions.

There is a rise of antisemitism & anti-Israel sentiment in America right now. Like many others, I'm very concerned about this trend and am actively working to combat it both here & in real life. At the same time, there is a massive difference between antisemitism & legitimate humanitarian concerns about a state's military tactics or criticisms of a state's government. We HAVE to stop conflating these things; doing so is only adding fuel to the fire. Trust me.
