The obsession for “ What’s in it for me” spells the decline and doom of the American Empire. It is an inward looking country while paradoxically being the poster boy of globalization. As far as Israel is concerned, it is a country born of American and western indulgence, and they are a perfect manifestation of colonizers. The Palestinians were robbed of their homeland. How and why India ignored a civilization ally to brazenly serenade a dubious modern hegemonic alliance led by two immoral leaders intoxicated with their lust for power, will need deeper examination. Its long term repercussions for India includes a debilitated global stature, being seen as unreliable and opportunistic by the global South, and a mere shadow of its once respectable stance on multilateralism, human rights violations and its own strategic independence. We have tilted, and in the process abdicated our reputational capital of diplomatic equanimity. India has surrendered its legitimacy to be a neural negotiator when it could have been one in a war that threatens the future of a significant share of humanity. It’s a self-inflicted calamitous damage. It’s a loss. We have treated statecraft and unprincipled compromise as synonyms, unfortunately. But like all civilizations, we will recover. We will reclaim our morality. Our inherent decency. Our core values.
