This New York Times piece is worth your time. Here’s what is happening, as simply as I can put it. Back in January, Trump sued the IRS, an agency he controls, demanding $10 billion over the leak of his tax returns a number of years ago. IRS lawyers did their jobs. They wrote a memo laying out the defenses that could beat the suit, including the fact that Trump filed too late. His own lawyer was in court when the leaker pleaded guilty in October 2023, more than two years before Trump sued. The Justice Department never showed up to court. Never argued back. Never used the defenses sitting on their desk. The judge got suspicious and ordered both sides to explain whether they were actually opposing each other or just colluding. The day before that brief was due, Trump dropped the suit. Same day, his Justice Department announced a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded “anti-weaponization fund.”  Trump gets a formal apology. The IRS agrees to drop any audits of him and his family, even though a 2024 Times report found a loss in an ongoing audit could cost him over $100 million. The acting Attorney General, Trump’s former criminal defense attorney, picks the five commissioners who decide who gets paid. Trump can fire any of them. Proud Boys and Oath Keepers are not ruled out. This is the most corrupt thing I’ve ever seen from an American president. Where in the hell are my Republican colleagues? nytimes.com/2026/05/19/adm…

BREAKING: Harry Dunn and Daniel Hodges, two law enforcement officers who clashed with Jan. 6 insurrectionists, have sued to block the Trump 'slush fund'. They're asking a federal judge to find the creation of the fund illegal and reverse any transfers that the Treasury Department has made to the DOJ to implement it. ms.now/rachel-maddow-…

We worked with @Panavision to talk about I Love Boosters, the process of getting the big, bold, colors, and why it HAS to be seen on a big screen.

Meta is attempting to stifle I Love Boosters content. They have never done this to any bank heist movies nor any mafia movies, nor any movies like Top Gun: Maverick showing a criminal group doing criminal activities. I Love Boosters- in theaters May 22nd.

Black American should not be given reparations for hundreds of years of slavery. Here’s why the January 6 rioters should be given reparations for a couple months in jail for committing treason

Private Equity Stakeholder Project
Chicago’s parking meter system may soon be controlled by another private equity firm: Stonepeak. Illinois pension systems have committed at least $280M to Stonepeak-managed funds, exposing Illinois retirees to geopolitical risks tied to fossil fuel infrastructure and LNG shipping assets operating near the Strait of Hormuz. Separate research also linked Stonepeak-backed fossil fuel infrastructure to an estimated $1.4M–$2M in annual health-related costs in Illinois. City Council should scrutinize the risks to Illinoisans before approving this deal.
Justin Laurence@jus10chi

New: The group that owns the 75-year lease of Chicago’s parking meters has reached a private deal to transfer the rights to Stonepeak Partners for an undisclosed price. The deal must be approved by the City Council.

Today is the 130th anniversary of the Supreme Court's 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson ruling, which established that racial segregation laws did not violate the Constitution. In the Library's Prints & Photographs collection, there are many visual examples of the “separate but equal” doctrine in practice.

The largest power grid in America is allowing data centers to shift billions in costs on other consumers, according to a new FERC complaint from Maryland. Maryland residential customers will pay an extra ~$345 over 10 years to subsidize PJM transmission lines for data centers.

You can't sue yourself. You can't settle with yourself. And you can't hijack a legitimate victim compensation fund and turn it into a taxpayer-funded payoff scheme for January 6 insurrectionists. Congress never authorized this and we won't let it stand.

Second, Section 4 of the Fourteenth Amendment prevents the use of federal funds to pay for “any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States." So, Congress could not set up a J6ers millionaire trust fund even if we wanted to, which we do not. (3/3)

Donald Trump just stole $1.7B from us — and he's creating a slush fund to reward his political allies. I've never seen anything like this in my 50 years in politics. It makes Nixon look like a boy scout. cnbc.com/2026/05/18/tru…
