It rained heavily last night and so I woke up to find my river had turned dark grey/almost black with a sheen of oil stretching along its entire surface. Road run off really looks like the next sewage scandal in the making. We are allowing a cocktail of damaging chemicals to wash into our rivers, permanently damaging the river & putting human health at risk. The craziest part is that unlike sewage, there is no permitting or monitoring of these discharges whatsoever by the Environment Agency or any other government department. We have no idea of the extent & scale of the potential problem.

@XRBalham @Greenpeace The best way to stop livestock's methane emissions is for each one of us to reduce or stop our consumption of meat and dairy. But neither NGOs like @Greenpeace nor politicians like to say that, because it's unpopular. So maybe we should?

Just some of the 1,150 scientists calling for UK Gov to pass the Climate & Nature Bill to drive the science-led action necessary to protect us from environmental collapse (which means economic & social collapse). Hard to see how any MP would think they know better. #CANBill

Last year the previous government approved the disastrous Rosebank oil field. Fast forward to today and the climate movement is standing outside the Scottish Court of Session, with legal challenges brought by Uplift and Greenpeace, one step closer to stopping Rosebank for good.

As the Arctic warms faster than the rest of the planet, permafrost in that region is thawing and releasing carbon dioxide and methane. A new international study shows the thawing permafrost has been a net contributor to global warming in recent decades. go.nasa.gov/48NI2bV
