@CoachKevinCoker And I’m a big VBT guy, especially for the smaller schools to help auto regulate athletes doing all sports all year to keep them healthy, but it can’t be done without a positive strength profile first!

Couldn’t be more spot on with the trends we are seeing with S&C. VBS is incredibly valuable, I think that has been a positive growth in development of S&C. However… “There is no substitute for strength and no excuse for the lack of it.”
John Davis, CSCS, Pn1, OPEX@Mr_davisj

“We’ve taken the strength out of strength and conditioning” Some people will argue Joe is stuck in his ways. Others will say he’s correct. There is ZERO you can argue about Joe’s impact on this field. Take a listen

I cannot emphasize enough how strong athletic programs can help turn around a campus academically. There may be other ways, but it is definitely a formula that works.

If your running game only works against the look you practiced, you don’t have a running game—you have a guess. Teach players how to identify leverage, numbers, and space pre-snap. Great run games solve problems, not memorize plays.

False. Pair the two ideas: Wendler and Holler, and watch what happens. Smart weight room programming, paired with explosive movements patterns, which are tracked weekly, will change your program completely.
Andrew Koontz@koontzjr_

This book came out 16 years ago and most football coaches would be better off adopting its programming than just about anything else available to them, including so called “sprint based” approaches

Why would Curt Cignetti hire Tyson Brown as his strength coach? Because strength isn’t about weight. It’s about wiring. Jordan Davis (Mississippi State) said Tyson Brown doesn’t just train the body. He trains the mind. That’s not motivational fluff. Elite strength programs build: 🔘Emotional control under fatigue 🔘Detail discipline when tired 🔘Competitive pressure every day 🔘Accountability tracked in data 🔘Recovery ownership (sleep, nutrition, habits) The weight room is controlled adversity. Hard reps under stress change how you respond in the 4th quarter. That’s why players say, “There are levels to this game.” The level isn’t muscle. It’s baseline. Cignetti didn’t just bring scheme to Indiana. He brought a higher internal standard. That’s the hidden edge.

Introduced some of the new guys to thunderstruck. A push-up every time the song says “thunder”. You can tell who knew the words and who didn’t! 😂

Every state and school district should be advocating for athletic periods during the school day, and this study from the Texas HS ranks makes the case for you footballscoop.com/2026/02/06/new…
