Many focus on benchmark scores as if they tell the full story.
“MMLU improved.”
“GPQA leading.”
“Smarter model.”
But these just indicate better test performance.
We’ve seen what happens to those who excel only in tests.
When faced with real situations, they often struggle.
Ritual explored this precisely.
Not by focusing on trivia or simple questions.
But by looking at factors that truly matter:
New information, shifting beliefs, real decision-making.
That’s where the results got shaky.
Give a system an initial belief and then present new evidence.
Ideally, it should update its view smoothly.
✤ What was observed instead?
Its responses drifted.
About 30% deviation on average, sometimes reaching 50%.
More troublingly, adding more information often made this drift worse.
✤ Here’s where it becomes complicated:
The system might say, “There’s an 80% chance.”
Yet when asked to act, it moves in the opposite direction.
Repeatedly.
This pattern shows it doesn’t follow through on its own assessments.
✤ So what exactly are we measuring?
Currently, these systems can:
Sound confident,
Appear sharp,
But falter when under real pressure.
This isn’t intelligence.
It’s surface-level performance.
Benchmarks evaluate answers; reality tests consistency.
And the gap between these two is significant.
If these models are meant to influence real decisions,
This gap becomes a critical concern.
Because in practice,
What you actually do carries more weight than what you claim.
So, instead of asking,

We should be asking,
“Does it maintain consistency when it truly counts?”

LLM inference is already a multi-billion dollar problem. And most people still don’t understand where the real bottleneck is. It’s not just models. It’s how efficiently you run them. Here’s the shift 👇 One of the most powerful ideas in modern inference is speculative sampling. ✤ Simple concept: → use a small, cheap model to “guess” outputs → let the large model verify instead of generate everything Result? Fewer forward passes. More speed. Lower cost. In some cases, 5x efficiency gains. But there’s a catch. What happens when you use multiple draft models? Now you have multiple guesses. Who decides which guess is correct? That’s where things break. The “optimal” way to solve this exists (OTLP)… but it’s practically unusable. Why? Because it explodes with vocabulary size. Theoretically perfect. Practically impossible. Until now. This new paper introduces Global Resolution a method that actually makes this usable. Not theory. Execution. ✤ Here’s what changed: → turns a complex optimization problem into a flow problem → removes redundant constraints intelligently → compresses a massive problem into a smaller, solvable one → solves it using convex optimization ✤ In simple words: From exponential chaos → to something you can actually run. ✤ And the results are real: → solves multi-draft verification efficiently → improves acceptance rates (Llama, Gemma) by up to 6% → makes optimal speculative decoding practical This is the kind of work most people ignore… …but it’s exactly what unlocks scale. Because better models don’t win alone. Better systems do. And inference is where the real war is happening. Big models are expensive. Speed matters. Efficiency decides everything.
