It's a tragedy that so many believe only others can have a poetic and compelling life.

Name 1 living American libertarian who can boast more actual policy wins for liberty than Donald Trump. Talking about it doesn't count. "Spreading the ideas," doesn't count. Actual policy wins.

National socialism IS a form of socialism. In “The Lion and the Unicorn: Socialism and the English Genius” (1941), Orwell wrote: “Internally, Germany has a good deal in common with a Socialist state. Ownership has never been abolished, there are still capitalists and workers, and - this is the important point, and the real reason why rich men all over the world tend to sympathize with Fascism - generally speaking the same people are capitalists and the same people workers as before the Nazi revolution. But at the same time the State, which is simply the Nazi Party, is in control of everything. It controls investment, raw materials, rates of interest, working hours, wages. The factory owner still owns his factory, but he is for practical purposes reduced to the status of a manager. Everyone is in effect a State employee, though the salaries vary very greatly.” In this system, the State exercises direct control over virtually every aspect of the economy, wages, investments, raw materials, and the means of production themselves. “Everyone is in effect a State employee.” It is not Marxist. It is not internationalist. But it is socialism. And this is precisely why authoritarian socialist regimes have so often flipped from one variant to the other with relative ease. Far from being opposites, they are two sides of the same coin. Rival authoritarian gangs competing for control over the same centralized power structure and the same conquered territory.

Leftists have deliberately blurred the vital distinction between rights and privileges. Liberty is a right, not a privilege. A right is something that cannot be legitimately taken from you. It is inherent to your existence. A privilege is something granted to you, which can just as easily be revoked. Government entitlements. There are no “positive” rights handed to you by the government. Those are privileges. Only natural rights exist. Life, liberty, property.

I'd rate Hillary Clinton around a 1 out of 10 on libertarianism. Her record featured advocacy for government-expanded healthcare initiatives, higher taxes on businesses and high earners, increased regulatory oversight, gun control measures, and interventionist foreign policy as Secretary of State. These expanded state involvement in economic decisions and personal conduct, conflicting with free markets, fiscal restraint, and minimal coercion. Few policies produced measurable wins for individual liberty or reduced government scope. The alignment with limited-government principles stays very low. Policy results over rhetoric.

I'd rate Donald Trump around a 4 out of 10 on libertarianism. He delivered real wins like the 2017 tax cuts, broad deregulation, and criminal justice reform that expanded economic and personal freedom in measurable ways. However, tariffs and trade barriers, record deficits, heavy executive actions, and immigration enforcement clash with core principles of free markets, fiscal restraint, and minimal coercion. Compared to consistent limited-government advocates, the record stays mixed rather than aligned. Policy results over rhetoric.
