Award-Winning Special Ed Teacher Accused of Abusing Boy for Years. A 52-year-old special education teacher from the Las Vegas area faces serious criminal charges after authorities say he abused a teenage boy for more than two years. The alleged abuse started during a walk in a cemetery and continued regularly after that. Douglas Trinkle, who worked for the Clark County School District since 2012, was arrested by Boulder City police on March 12, 2026. He remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center on a $75,000 bond. Court documents list charges that involves 14 or 15 year old boy. The boy was not one of Trinkle’s students at any point. Police reports say the alleged grooming began in August 2023 when Trinkle expressed personal feelings for the teen during that cemetery walk. From there, the encounters allegedly turned sexual and happened two or three times a week for roughly two years. The victim later told investigators about gifts and repeated statements of love from Trinkle. Trinkle built a strong reputation in Nevada schools as an autism specialist and creative educator. He earned a national Outstanding Special Education Teacher Award in 2016 while working at Variety School. Colleagues described him as someone who went above and beyond for students and staff. The Clark County School District told reporters the allegations have nothing to do with current students or school property. Principal Colin McNaught sent an email stating that point clearly, and the district immediately barred Trinkle from all campuses. Boulder City police also confirmed the case was not connected to his teaching job.
