When people discuss environmental transformations after the last glacial maximum (Doggerland etc.) there's an error of time scale. These were sudden on a geological scale, but wouldn't really be noticeable for people living at the time. They did not experience a visible change.

We don't know the details, but we do know that prior to ~3,000BC there were large surface lakes in the Sahara, and probably conditions now typically associated with South-East Africa. A grassland space comparable in size to the Eurasian Step.
