@ChenxinLi2 Interestingly, until about five years ago biochemists would argue till the world ended that convergent evolution was rare in plant specialized metabolism.

We're excited to share the work led by Dr. @PeterWinegar on the complete biosynthesis of verazine. This accomplishment marks the #1st heterologous steroidal alkaloid produced in engineered yeast, unlocking future drug development. Congrats, Peter!! 🧬🎉
