@_Venezuela_Now_ @WallStreetApes Some people will not sell at any price. Have you also forgotten that it’s your tax dollars paying this bill? Your world doesn’t exist and can’t work because everything would be too expensive to build.

UPDATE: On the girl who made all those viral videos about Georgia Power threatening to take their home with eminent domain to expand for data centers, her family was just forced to sell to avoid eminent domain Corporations always win. They lost their home but don’t want to leave “To us, it's theft. It's literally a billion-dollar company stealing land from Smaller people, people who can't fight back. We don't have the money to fight Georgia Power.” A spokesperson from Georgia Power says faking peoples homes actually benefits everyone “Eminent domain is always, you know, a last resort for us — I would just say that we see you and we hear you and we want this process to be respectful and transparent, and that is going to ultimately benefit you” It’s literally insane, Georgia Power is actually saying that stealing your property for data centers “is going to ultimately benefit you” She won’t be the last there are over 300 homes in this area being targeted for data center power expansion

How much more in taxes do you want to pay? Recent purchase by our City ran nearly 100,000 per acre for some ground because the landowner refused to sell and it was cheaper to pay than to go to court. This was Ag land, mind you, but developable. Going rate is closer to 80,000 per acre. So, yes, you might be able to pay more in some cases…but taxes will go up.

@Life__Liberty @WallStreetApes The line between "We can't build X without taking property" and "it's way easier and cheaper for us if we just take property" is very blurry. Is eminent domain just a crutch for cities that can't budget properly?

I’m not playing word games. I’m merely attempting to have a calm discussion about the merits of eminent domain. People are angry because a data center stole peoples homes (paraphrasing). This is wrong. I’m trying to get people to point their anger at the right entities! Your elected representatives approved this action. If you’re upset about it, complain to them. It’s shallow thinking to be angry at the company who owns the data center or the power company who is obligated to provide power.

@Life__Liberty @WallStreetApes A forced sale to avoid a taking (with low-balled value) for an unnecessary data center (and it’s demands) is not merely a devastating thing for the owners aggravating the private injury is the infliction of an enterprise will harm the local and the greater community.

@Chris483697 @SarahWW @WallStreetApes Enjoy your tantrum and come back when you can logically discuss issues without telling someone to F off. Find something I’ve said that’s FALSE, and we can discuss it. Just because you’re angry about what I’ve said, doesn’t mean you’re correct.

You know what I’d love? For the people screaming at me for stating FACTS, to turn your anger toward the elected officials who voted for approving the eminent domain. But NO, you all are too stupid to begin to understand this concept. All of you are fucking hypocrites while you use your phones (cell towers built using eminent domain), driving your cars on roads, etc.

Unfortunately, eminent domain is necessary. Without it, we wouldn’t have any modern infrastructure. Roads, phones, electricity, etc. all required eminent domain to build out. The only thing everyone agrees on is “not in my backyard”. They are fairly compensated based on a fair market value assessment that you have the ability to challenge. It sucks, but society must be able to move forward.

Give up your phone, electricity, and vehicle (items only useful or made possible through eminent domain), and then you can make that statement you hypocrite. Some people willingly sell or grant easements- MANY do not and never will. It sucks, but modern society requires continuous routes to move people, electricity, data, and goods. Can’t have continuous routes when people can say no.

@floridanative03 @RhondaB74365 @WallStreetApes Yes, but the private company is not using eminent domain. This still has to be initiated by a city, county, or state process. This is still completely in the hands of elected officials. However, this is still a TERRIBLE abuse or even bastardization of the process.

@Life__Liberty @RhondaB74365 @WallStreetApes “The Kelo v. City of New London case is a significant Supreme Court decision from 2005 that upheld the use of eminent domain to transfer land from one private owner to another for economic development, ruling that this does not violate the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment “

No, it’s not my place to say what benefits the public. The administrators who are voted in make that decision. Where I live, there are plenty of counties that are rejecting data centers because of the public outcry. I’m sorry that your city or county feels data centers are more important. But, these are approved by elected officials. Direct your anger and frustration in the right direction.

@SharonPatr21273 @WallStreetApes Again- this is an emotional response to a perceived problem. If you don’t like eminent domain, vote out the county or city administrators who vote to approve these measures. Eminent domain must be voted on.

@Life__Liberty @WallStreetApes This isn't the 1800s. We're not building railroads to forge the West. There's plenty of land in this country that they do not need to take people's homes. It's a show of force and an abuse of eminent domain.

Underground does not work for these high voltage lines. I live many states away and have no monetary interest in power. I only started to reply here to educate because the emotional outrage is misdirected. Furthermore, most people have bo idea what eminent domain actually is. You seem to default to name calling and insults, which is pathetic and generally a sign of an ignorant and uneducated person.

@angelwakingup2 @Life__Liberty @WallStreetApes Bob either works for the company or he is just another Simp bending over for a small piece of the pie. They can do all of this shit underground now for power. They do it in other countries. They just want your land. If Bob has his way, he’ll be the only one left with land.

This is an issue for the county or city to deal with: they approved the data center. By that approval, the power company must provide power to the customer. The power company has to run new lines which requires land. People are unwilling to sell and therefore eminent domain is set in motion. Get angry at the city or county for the approval.

Eminent domain is (read, should be) for public infrastructure. Highways. Airports. Shit like that. A data center is not public infrastructure. It's purely a private business. There is no demonstratable public benefit to their business beyond "they pay state taxes". And if that's all they need, then *every* business should be able to use eminent domain for *everything*. Which would be retarded. Now, personally, I don't have a problem with data centers. But they shouldn't be able to use eminent domain to acquire the land they need.
