In 2001, 17-year-old Alissa Turney disappeared on the last day of her junior year of high school in Phoenix, Arizona. She was quickly labeled a runaway, and no formal missing persons investigation was opened in the immediate aftermath of her disappearance. That early classification shaped the response to her case and delayed the urgency it deserved. More than two decades later, Alissa’s whereabouts remain unknown. For the first time in 25 years, an official search for Alissa Turney is taking place. Light The Way Missing Persons Advocacy Project, in partnership with the Gabby Petito Foundation and Dylan’s Legacy will launch a search deployment in March 2026. Theresa Corley was 19 years old when she was murdered in Bellingham, #Massachusetts in 1978. That night, she was taken to an apartment by a group of men and sexually assaulted. According to statements collected during the investigation, when Theresa tried to escape, she was forcibly pulled back inside by the men. Four days later, her body was found along Route 495. She had been strangled. In 2017, DNA testing identified a man whose DNA was found on Theresa’s clothing. He was present in the apartment with Theresa the night she disappeared. Despite this identification, Theresa’s family says the suspect has not been re-interviewed, key evidence has not been subjected to modern forensic testing, and the case has never been presented to a grand jury. More than 47 years later, her family is still waiting for accountability.
