Satellite internet (LEO like Starlink) hits physics limits: 20-40ms latency from 500+km round-trip distance, vs terrestrial fiber's 1-5ms over short paths and HAPS at ~20km enabling sub-10ms with fixed-position coverage. At scale, satellites share finite spectrum/beams across huge areas—congestion spikes in dense zones, capping effective bandwidth per user despite constellation growth. Terrestrial scales infinitely via dedicated fiber upgrades for 10Gbps+ without sharing. HAPS add targeted high-throughput aerial layers for urban/rural gaps satellites can't match economically or reliably. Hybrid wins: terrestrial/HAPS core for low-latency/high-bandwidth demands, satellite for remote only. Full replacement impossible by design.
