Ironically, structures like these are typically associated with low income residents abroad, yet in Nigeria the opposite is the case. Despite the evident neglect, deteriorating infrastructure, and overall decline, it is the high income earners who occupy these buildings, highlighting a striking contrast in how socioeconomic class and housing quality are perceived.

@LikeIfee @adeoluwawa If I may ask, what appliances do you have plugged when "not around"? Cos this bill is quite on the high side. The max you should have is a fridge/freezer and maybe an inverter that charges when you're not around and since it's band A, charging shouldn't be that frequent yeah?

The same reason you are struggling to fly across Africa as a Nigerian is the same reason you are struggling to afford to buy a vehicle as a Nigerian. Nigerian regulators and trade enforcement organizations like NCAA, FAAN and Customs think they are revenue generating companies.

@adeoluwawa My neighbors spend almost same amount. So it’s not peculiar to me alone. Still cheaper than using generator though.

You're the chief/Obi of your Umu-nna....you adopted a son and later on your wife gave birth to son... When you join your Ancestors...the son they will crown the next Obi is your biological son...if you don't have a biological before you join your Ancestors...your own brother will be crown and he will inherit the seat as the next chief/obi of your kindred... An adopted child does not sit on Ancestral stool.

Igbos have some weird traditions. My dad married 3 wives. I am the eldest son from the 2nd wife. When he died, the son from the 1st wife was made the senior son and owner of my dad’s compound. He is my junior! Sadly, I’ve already built a Duplex in the compound with my dad’s blessings. Now, I’ve to start building my own Obi elsewhere.

We used to have compounds like this in Nigeria — with lush green grass, trees, and colourful buildings. Now it’s concrete and tiles everywhere, with plain white buildings. Nigerian architecture really fall off. Design sustainably today 🌿

Here is the hack: Let’s say you want to buy 10k worth of beef, don’t go there and tell the aboki that he should cut 10k beef for you. This is what you should do: - Select a very big chunk of the meat on the table. - Ask him how much. (In your mind you know that meat may be worth let’s say 20k). - He will tell you 25k - Start pricing from 6k. Yes, I said 6k. - He will squeeze face but stand on that your 6k. - He will tell you the last price is 20k. - Tell him you can only add 1500, that is 7,500. Squeeze your face too. This is negotiation not romance. - He will tell you 18k last. - Tell him you will only pay 8,500. And that if you exceed that, you cannot buy the other stuff you came to the market for. - He will say no, that it is 17k last. - Tell him you are going to buy fish, except he will sell for 10k. Trust me, he will. Market men and women naturally want to cheat you first before anything else. They will never sell at a loss. If you know how to bargain well like me, you’ll always get a good deal. You are welcome.😊
