15 years ago after the terrible Tohuku earthquake, Iranian FM Araghchi was then-ambassador to Japan. Instead of repatriating like many other embassy staff (nicknamed "flyjin") he kept the Iranian embassy in Tokyo fully operational.
Araghchi and his staff actively coordinated relief for the stricken regions. 50,000 cans of food was delivered by iran and a team sent from Iranian red cresent into the disaster zones.
During his meeting with Japanese officials, Araghchi said Iran had not forgotten Japanese assistance provided after the 2003 Bam earthquake.
