I’ve worked with extraordinary people all over the world, and Marna stands among the best.
This year marks Marna’s 20th year at @IvanhoeMines_. When we started Ivanhoe Nickel & Platinum, as it was called then, we had a handful of employees as well as untested exploration ground off the western edge of the DRC Copperbelt and on the Northern Limb of the Bushveld complex in South Africa. We had yet to make a discovery.
Since then, Marna has led Ivanhoe’s rapid development of three tier one critical metals mines.
Exceptional ore bodies require exceptional leadership… we are fortunate to have one of the finest mining executives of our generation leading Ivanhoe Mines.

With demand for scandium growing faster than the metal is being extracted from the ground, it should come as no surprise that we are considering greatly expanding our #scandium production capabilities at Syerston.

Great to see Australian Mining highlight the continued momentum behind our Syerston Scandium Project. Originally designed to produce 60 tonnes of high-purity scandium oxide annually, we are now working with GR Engineering Services on a concept study to assess an expansion to 180 tonnes per year at Syerston, given the growing strategic importance of scandium. “Sunrise Energy Metals is targeting a final investment decision (FID) on its Syerston Scandium Project in New South Wales in the September quarter, and the company is already studying whether the mine should be three times larger,” reporter @mikaelahenschel noted. “Construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2026, with first production targeted for mid-2028.” @ozmining also highlighted our recent acceptance into the NSW Critical Minerals Royalty Deferral Scheme, engineering progress ahead of construction, and increasing interest from global scandium users supplying the defence, aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors. July is typically a quiet time of the year for physical copper demand... not this year. There is no other time in recent memory when, during the first two weeks of July, 40,000 to 50,000 tonnes of copper cathode inventories were drawn down in China.
Plus... a massive 25,725 tonnes of copper warrants were cancelled on the LME today (copper marked for physical withdrawal), reducing the net available copper on the LME to 174,675 tonnes - down from 350,850 tonnes on April 30th. In other words, there are only 174,675 tonnes of copper outside China that China can draw on. That's nothing.
This is all incredibly bullish. The copper market is getting tighter and tighter, and it's about to push higher. We have heard traders talking about $20,000 per tonne of copper being on the horizon.
Copper equities are absurdly oversold due to thin summer trading (driven by computers) and they will soon catch up... and IMHO Ivanhoe Mines $IVN.TO is the cheapest of them all. We are making a bottom in the dog days of summer.

The theme of copper tightness continues... @BankofAmerica reported this morning that China's cathode inventories fell by 17% (~34,900 tonnes) over the past week (see chart). There has been a precipitous fall in both LME and SHFE copper inventories since March
