CCP tried to ban after school tutoring. They made primary schools much more stress free- basically no decisive exams until 9th grade. Schools below high school are all determined by lottery or location of residence.
There's literally no point in striving until end of 9th grade, but Chinese still suffer from generational starving trauma.
Takes time to digest it.
Taiwan and South Korea aren't any better.
Japan used to be the same but they graduated from poverty long before everyone else, moved up the Maslow Pyramid earlier, and are much more chill and passion-driven than any Asians
