@thejefflutz @balajis I used to listening to your professional insights in production and manufacturing in a global market space. But for me, you have lost your credibility. I can not fathom how an intelligent man can support such an horrible person as Trump.

@balajis Fair points in the extreme, but we’re not there yet. All of oil infrastructure has not been blown up. Threatening to do that isn’t wise either agreed of course. Estimates have to be <5% impacted long term or less. Rest is about re-ramping once settled

I'm going to make some obvious points. (1) Blowing up all the oil infrastructure in the Middle East is an insane idea, and may well result in a global economic crash and humanitarian crisis unrivaled in the lives of those now living. We're talking about the price of everything everywhere rising, from food to gas, at a moment when inflation was already high. All of that will be laid at the feet of the authors of this war. (2) The antebellum status quo of Feb 27, 2026 was just not that bad, but we're unlikely to return to it. Expect indefinite, long-term, ongoing disruptions to everything out of the Middle East. (3) Also assume tech financing crashes for the indefinite future. The genius plan to get the Gulf states caught in the crossfire has incinerated much of the funding for LPs, for datacenters, and for IPOs. Anyone in tech who supported this war may soon learn the meaning of "force majeure" as funding gets yanked. (4) Many capital allocators will instead be allocating much further down Maslow's hierarchy of needs, towards useful basic things like food and energy. (5) It's fortunate that all those progressives yelled about the "climate crisis." Yes, their reasoning about timelines was wrong, and much of the money was wasted in graft, but the result was right: we all need energy independence from the Middle East, pronto. It's also fortunate that Elon and China autistically took climate seriously. Now they're going to need to ship a billion solar panels, electric vehicles, batteries, nuclear power plants, and the like to get everyone off oil, immediately. (6) It's not just an oil and gas problem, of course. It's also a fertilizer problem, and a chemical precursor problem. Maybe some new sources will come online at the new prices, but it takes time to dial stuff up, particularly at this scale, so shortages are almost a certainty. That said, China has actually scaled up coal-to-chemicals[a,c] (C2C), and there's also something more sci-fi called Power-to-X[b] which turns arbitrary power + water + air into hydrocarbons. But all of that will need to get accelerated. I have a background in chemical engineering so may start funding things in this area. (7) Ultimately, this war is going to result in tremendous blame for anyone associated with it. It's a no-win scenario to blow up this much infrastructure for so many people. Simply not worth it for whatever objective they thought they were going to attain. But unless you're actually in a position to stop the madness, the pragmatic thing to do is: scramble to mitigate the fallout to yourself, your business, and your people. Joe Rogan is one of the many idiots who helped get Trump elected and are now acting surprised by the outcome of his presidency. It was predictable, and many warned you. Unsubscribed from Joe Rogan long ago because why should you listen to someone who can't see the obvious.
Daractenus@Daractenus

Having done more than his fair bit to convince America to vote for a corrupt imbecile who would very predictably blow up the world, Joe Rogan is now amazed at how "unstable and fucked" the world has become thanks to said corrupt imbecile he helped elect.

Trump's beef with Zelenskyy makes no sense. Zelenskyy has vocally supported the operation in Iran, too. Trump remains awful to Ukraine.

So every time you leave a meeting, you know that criminal Putin will continue the terrible crimes that have killed hundreds of thousands of people in the last year alone. He doesn't tell us that, but we know that until Putin is defeated, he will continue the killing.

This was not a political statement. This was me thinking logically through the repercussions. This is all about PERSPECTIVE. Look at the markets, they are turning red. Why? Because people are realizing how negative this news is. Our competitors will now see this as a major weakness for the US. The most powerful man in the country and his cabinet don’t even have the power to negotiate better trade terms for the country. Think about how crazy that is. We are going through a time in the world where decisiveness and action is CRITICAL. “It’s up to Congress to decide if we impose tariffs or not” That is ludicrous in my opinion. Congress doesn’t give af about us citizens. They have shown it time and time again. They don’t have our best interests in mind, that is evident based on every single decision they’ve made time and time again. All they care about is Republican vs Democrat and who is winning. THAT IS IT. Watch markets turn deep red. Sad day for America.
PepeMoonBoy@pepemoonboy

So the PRESIDENT of the United States has no leverage when negotiating on behalf of his country? This is exactly how other countries will interpret this. And what will they do? They will drag out negotiations, or not negotiate at all, knowing there’s no repercussions since the US president has no leverage. Explain to me how this is good for Americans. The supreme court quite literally just sided with our competitors. I don’t care what your politics are. No matter if the president is Democrat or Republican, they should have the ability to negotiate on behalf of their country. “But Pepe the US is not a business” The US is the BIGGEST business on earth. Everything that politicians do revolves around money. EVERY. SINGLE. DECISION. Idiocy at its finest wow.

SUPREME COURT STRIKES DOWN TRUMP’S TARIFFS 6-3 DECISION what’s even more wild is that two of the Supreme Court justices that Trump handpicked in his first term, Gorsuch and Barrett, went against his landmark policy for his second term… wow, they really overturned it
