@centrist_nz I am 100% Kiwi, unlike this woman who is as born in Oz to an Aussie father. I had a child in Oz to my Aussie husband, then moved back home. I had to go through the normal application to get our son his NZ citizenship by descent. She is not an NZ citizen, nor is her US born child.

I’m thinking thru the free speech implications of the cancelling of Jimmy Kimmel. If it was a case of him making a bad joke I would say the remedy should be an apology on the next episode or whatever. It would be a pretty clear case of cancel culture. What is giving me pause is that Kimmel straight up lied on air about the assassin being MAGA. It was a malevolent act of disinformation. Employers are entitled to take action when an employee deliberately brings harm to the company. Again I would say a retraction and apology might be better than a straight cancellation.

Charlie Kirk’s assassination is a shocking event that will spark tremendous rage in the United States. On Newstalk ZB this morning Mike Hosking’s comments on the shooting were so disgracefully ignorant it makes one wonder how he ever keeps his job as a prime time radio presenter. It would be easy to interpret Hosking’s comments as “Charlie Kirk got what he deserved!". Hosking described Charlie as “one of those guys” and part of the “disinformation campaign on Biden and Covid". Completely overlooking the heroic work Charlie has done for the Conservative cause over decades. He also said “he’s close with, you know (hesitates) the Trumps” (You have to listen to hear the tone of Hosking’s words.) Charlie Kirk, married with two children, deserves far more than to be described in such a dismissive and inaccurate manner by a pathetic ignorant liberal flunky like Hosking. That’s Newstalk ZB and Mike Hosking I guess. Never mind the quality, just enjoy the quantity.
