As Ghana calls for reparations and the left wing media rush to reinforce the white guilt some may feel, it is notable that none use this photo of a British Sailor removing the chains from a freed slave. Great Britain ended the slave trade and paid in blood and coin. No charge.

@Linzwhitney @Empireaesth Recognizing this doesn’t excuse anything, but it shows how complex is. Feel like it's about owning all of it, not just the easy parts.

The African slave trade was not driven solely by outside forces. Slavery existed across many African societies for centuries before Europeans arrived, fueled by warfare, debt, and conquest, with captives used for labor and status. When Portuguese traders reached the coast in the 1400s, they bought slaves from African rulers and middlemen (kingdoms like Dahomey and Ashanti) profited hugely by supplying them. An earlier Arab trans-Saharan trade had already moved millions, also relying on African networks. External demand intensified the system, but its roots and supply chains were deeply African. In the case of the Arabs, they were more influential than most of the West ever was.

@Linzwhitney @Empireaesth The transatlantic slave trade was driven by outside powers profiting from and intensifying these conflicts, turning human lives into commodities on a massive scale. It’s important to see the full picture, including how external forces exploited and worsened these divisions

@moralKerosene @Empireaesth It’s pretty sad because the history of what happened to slaves in Africa at the hands of other Africans was absolutely horrendous and is often left out of history books.

The UN General Assembly has voted to recognise slave trade as "the gravest crime against humanity". The proposal by Ghana was adopted with 123 votes in favour and three against - the United States, Israel and Argentina. bbc.in/4rTpwqE

I love how some people today like to ignore the fact that slaves from Africa were sold into slavery by other Africans after they conquered their tribes or kingdoms. Those same individuals also don’t like to talk about the fact that, during the time of slavery in Western nations, there were still slaves kept within Africa by Africans. Those slaves were subjected to things like ritual sacrifices and cannibalism. Moreover, no one likes to talk about the fact that after Western nations abolished slavery, it continued in Africa and the Middle East. In addition, no one seems to like to talk about the fact that Arabs went to Europe and subjected Europeans to slavery, literally abducting them from shoreline communities. Furthermore, let’s not forget the wars that Western nations fought to abolish slavery. All of that seems to be left out of the history books because it doesn’t fit the narrative.

The UK has abstained on a UN vote, by Ghana, calling on former colonial powers to pay reparations for the slave trade. There are roughly 7 million slaves in Africa today, perhaps they should focus on that if they are so morally outraged by it? The UK was also the first country in the entire history of humanity to end slavery, costing British lives and a debt we have only just recently paid off. We’ve done our part, in fact, we’ve done more than any other nation ever.

@TedumN86782 @GuardTheWest @BBCNews They conquered local tribes, then either kept them as slaves or sold them into slavery to other nations. In some cases, they took those slaves from conquered tribes and sacrificed them or even ate them. The Kingdom of Dahomey is a great place to start for educational purposes.

@Lookin_Exotic @GuardTheWest For being slave traders, for owning slaves, and for using those slaves for human sacrifices and, in some cases, for cannibalism. Don’t believe me? Look it up.

@twalkerp @CatholicCharm No, you’re just missing the point of what both the original poster and I have said. You’re just trying to make assumptions here about intentions.

@Linzwhitney @CatholicCharm If snape is black…isn’t the point that Harry worrying about him just as normal as a white guy? It doesn’t matter. If snape were originally black and then made white you’d be upset as well. You are mad just to be mad.

That’s because they don’t care about the canon or the story. They care about pushing personal narratives instead, which tells me there is also a high likelihood that other aspects of the books have been changed. So, no thank you. They ruined the LoTR series, they ruined the Halo series, they ruined the Last of Us series, and it seems the HP series is about to suffer the same fate.

To me, it’s not just the unnecessary swaps. When I see this happening, these same shows, movies, etc., often change major aspects of the story itself to fit the narrative they want to push- one that doesn’t honor the original story but their own personal politics. This happened with the LoTR series, it happened with the Halo series: a complete and total middle finger to the lore and canon that all of us fans know and love. So that tells me the individuals behind these reworked movies and series don’t care about us who’ve supported the original games, books, and series- which means I won’t care about whatever garbage they try to create for their own personal agenda.

Let's be clear. There's a lot of issues with this HBO Harry Potter series. Extra unnecessary added details, pointless raceswaps of minor characters that I, like many other Potterheads, could have overlooked. But Black Snape is such an insulting slap in the face it's a 100% deal breaker.

@GovPressOffice He kept giving Iran money, which in turn was used to fund terror cells around the globe. That in no way shape or form kept America (or our allies) “safe.”
