@InLoveRumin I love Walter and his role in SH4, but by the same token a Western SH game where the villain chases you around with dual handguns like he's Max Payne absolutely would've become a prime example of 'dumb Americans' (every Western dev is American apparently) ruining Silent Hill.

For the record, I love that nurses in sh3 have guns. I'm just if a western game did it, it would have been called too western/too edgy/not silent hill/not subtle or whatever & no one would ever stop bringing it up about how the western games lost the plot. x.com/i/status/20402…

I think my favorite silent hill monster of all time is the silent hill 3 nurse. Their hair and gun make them look so remixed/cyberpunk/steampunk/gothic/grunge/emo and it makes me happy.

Am I allowed to say there would have been so much hate if a western Silent Hill game gave nurses guns instead of Silent Hill 3? But because a Team Silent game did it, it gets a pass.

@Saulman11835779 God it's a shame that First Kill often gets forgotten due to its debut as a backup story. So many of the popular misconceptions about Venom and the roles taken on by Eddie and the symbiote within that partnership would be cleared up if this thing was published everywhere lmao.

@InLoveRumin Yes, revisionism. The game was shit at launch and it’s still shit now. The pc port is garbage and it’s ironically the only good part because it does everything in its power to stop you from lobotomising yourself playing the game

@soonrightaway It's a really fun and unique game that would be better regarded if it was clearer about how distinct each difficulty is. The half hour normal mode doesn't quite do it total justice, but by hard and expert it comes together pretty beautifully.

Star Fox 2 is crazy… SNES game that’s a 3D flight shooter/platformer hybrid with a procedurally generated roguelite campaign and realtime strategy elements. it’s not even on rails like the other games, it has fully 3D combat. i also finished my first run in just 40 minutes lol

@thekirkster1088 @KaleeshArbiter Yeah for all the flaws of the trilogy, it was nice to see the spirit of the classic minis being earnestly embraced in these big blockbusters after years of them being dismissed as worthless 90s schlock. And to be fair they did draw a lot of people into the Venom fanbase.

@KaleeshArbiter Like people give these movies a lot of shit (respectfully so at points) but they tend to try and use a lot of venom's earlier stuff (like carnage being able to hack computers) and I kinda love them for it

Y'know, for all the shit I give the Venom movies, I'm still really impressed with them using the Xenophage. Not to mention they also gave them a pretty unique and alien design. Just big weird creeps, and I think that's cool.

It's a fine conversation to have, but it's all getting weirdly heated.

@DoomBacon @GenghisConnThr3 Yeah I'm not a fan of the idea that wanting Star Fox to focus on the aerial combat is this regressive lunacy. When a franchise is this rare it's not unreasonable to want to see its unique elements developed rather than devoting time to stuff that's done better elsewhere.

@Liquid__Snail The combat is part of what makes the games so replayable. Getting new weapons every playthrough and some of the games even having a score at the end, Silent Hill fans often forget that these are video games.

@omegajayrod91 @timAcatsoftpaws Lawrence is fantastic, but I do hope Sloan gets another great Vader project one day. I have a lot of nostalgia for the guy and his reputation's kinda gone downhill between the dodgy effects on his voice in BF 2015 and Lawrence giving his best performance yet in Fallen Order.

@omegajayrod91 @timAcatsoftpaws I gave Sloan's filmography a look. He's done Vader in a few Lego TV specials in the 2020s, with his last 'big' Vader project being EA's Battlefront 2. Since 2019 Scott Lawrence seems to have made a comeback as the preeminent game VA for Vader after a long period of Sloan. 1/2

Darth Vader has been completely silent in every single animated Star Wars project since 2020. I think this has worked surprisingly well and added to the menace of his character. Still, I believe fear of change should not prevent them from ever hiring a new voice actor. It was not necessary for him to say a word to any of these characters and, as Tony Gilroy said, Vader does not have much to say to begin with in most situations, but eventually, they will need to bring in someone to voice him and I truly hope they do not use AI for it as they did in the Kenobi series.

@InLoveRumin I'd agree that most of the games are good starting points and that SH3's incomprehensibility without context is overstated, although I do think that SM is greatly enhanced if the player has an existing relationship with SH1's story and cast so I wouldn't recommend that one.

New controversial Silent Hill opinion: I think every Silent Hill game is a good game to start with. Even Silent Hill 3. There is a recap of SH1 in 3 for first timers, & it makes replaying SH1 & seeing how everything unfolded leading up to 3 feel like an interesting revelation.
