If I had to guess the reason Edwards and co don’t fancy Alonso is because they don’t think his style will maximise attacking players. Too slow paced and methodical. Defensive stability and control comes first. Edwards is all about maximising player output.

He’s a better right back than Frimpong and the Bradley despite being a CM. He’s actually the perfect modern profile for full back because you basically need to be as good as a midfielder in build up. O’Reilly and Nunes are midfielders.
